About Christmas at Carditello

From December 6th to January 6th, the Real Sito di Carditello—a Bourbon estate nestled in the countryside of San Tammaro—transforms into a Christmas Traditions Village. Located in the heart of the Terra di Lavoro, in the province of Caserta, the event features craft and nativity scene stalls, tastings of typical Campanian products, guided tours of the royal stables with Persano horses, concerts, theatrical performances, and vintage car rallies. Experience a unique Christmas blending Bourbon heritage with local flavors, with most activities offering free admission.

A Christmas at the Bourbon Royal Estate

Christmas at Carditello is the festive highlight of the Real Sito di Carditello, the Bourbon residence set in the open countryside of San Tammaro, in the province of Caserta, in the heart of the Terra di Lavoro. For a month, from early December until Epiphany, this neoclassical complex—commissioned by Charles of Bourbon and transformed into a model farm by Ferdinand IV—hosts the Traditions Village: a journey combining crafts, food and wine, music, and historical re-enactments in one of the most evocative settings in Campania.

The event is organized by the Fondazione Real Sito di Carditello, the body that has managed and promoted the site since 2016, and has grown year after year to become one of the most popular Christmas events in the Caserta province.

The Local Traditions Village

The heart of the event is the village set up within the grounds of the Royal Site, where visitors meet local agricultural producers and sample the excellence of the Terra di Lavoro. The Campagna Amica corners, curated in collaboration with Coldiretti Caserta, are dedicated to:

  • fruit and vegetables, with the Protection Consortium of the Melannurca Campana PGI;
  • cheeses, with the Protection Consortium of the Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO;
  • extra virgin olive oil and local wines;
  • nativity scene art and Christmas crafts, featuring stalls by local masters and artisans.

The Traditions Village initiative is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, confirming the agricultural vocation that Carditello has maintained since the 18th century.

Persano Horses, Vintage Cars, and Re-enactments

One of the most anticipated moments is the extraordinary opening of the royal stables featuring Persano horses, the equine lineage bred here by the Bourbons. Guided tours allow visitors to get up close to the animals and explore the riding track, fountains, obelisks, and the circular temple that characterize the complex designed by Francesco Collecini, a pupil of Luigi Vanvitelli.

The equestrian heritage is complemented by a passion for motoring, with parades of vintage and modern cars stopping in the Royal Site's courtyard, offering an unusual contrast between classic engines and neoclassical architecture.

Concerts, Theatre, and Family Workshops

The Christmas calendar is not limited to markets: on December weekends, the Royal Site hosts concerts, theatrical performances linked to the history of the Kingdom of Naples, creative workshops for children, and moments of reflection shared with local dioceses. Many initiatives are free until capacity is reached, while guided tours follow the Foundation's standard pricing.

Why it's worth the trip

Visiting Carditello in December means seeing a site that for years was a symbol of abandonment and is now fully alive thanks to the work of the Foundation and the participation of local communities. The audience is diverse: families, Bourbon history enthusiasts, curious visitors in search of local products, and those taking advantage of the proximity to the Royal Palace of Caserta—just over twenty minutes away by car—to build a Christmas itinerary entirely dedicated to the Bourbon heritage of Campania.

Christmas at Carditello — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Christmas at Carditello does not yet have official dates. As of late July 2026, the Fondazione Real Sito di Carditello has not released the calendar for the upcoming festivities. As in previous years, the opening of the Christmas Traditions Village and the program of tours, concerts, and shows are expected to be announced between late November and early December. The date indicated is therefore provisional and serves only to place the event within the usual Advent period.

2026 Edition: dates not yet announced

There are no official communications yet regarding Christmas at Carditello for December 2026. The reference remains the formula established in previous editions: the Local Traditions Village set up in the grounds of the Real Sito in San Tammaro, in the province of Caserta, featuring crafts and nativity art, tastings of Campanian products, guided tours of the royal stables with Persano horses, and a calendar of concerts and theatrical performances on weekends.

Those planning a visit can look toward the period between early December and Epiphany and check the Fondazione Real Sito di Carditello website, its social media channels, and local Caserta press in the weeks leading up to the holidays, when dates, times, tour prices, and the evening event program will be published.

Prices Christmas at Carditello 2026

In previous editions, admission to the Traditions Village has always been free, while guided tours followed the Foundation's standard pricing (with modest supplements for special routes). For 2026, neither dates nor prices have been announced: it is recommended to check the official website before traveling.
