Every year, around September 29th, the town of Casagiove in the province of Caserta gathers to honor its patron saint, Saint Michael the Archangel. It is one of the most anticipated events of the year, weaving together religious devotion and the convivial spirit of a traditional town festival in a region of Campania with deep historical roots.
The cult of the Archangel in Casagiove dates back centuries: the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, with its imposing Baroque facade, is mentioned in medieval documents and houses a precious statue of the Archangel created in 1718 by the Neapolitan Baroque sculptor Giacomo Colombo. The Archconfraternity of Saint Michael the Archangel, guardian of the city's devotional traditions, has been active around the church for centuries.
The heart of the festival is liturgical. The patronal day is marked by a Solemn Holy Mass in the church dedicated to the saint and the traditional procession of the statue of Saint Michael through the town center, accompanied by the faithful, confraternities, and sacred music. Along the route, there is no shortage of floral tributes and signs of devotion from a community that renews its bond with its celestial protector every year.
Alongside the religious moments, the festival opens up to a civil and convivial dimension. The streets and squares of Casagiove come alive with illuminations, evening concerts featuring local artists and guests, entertainment shows, and activities for children. Food stalls offer the typical flavors of Campanian cuisine, providing an opportunity to rediscover local products and traditional dishes in a festive atmosphere that engages both residents and visitors.
Located along the ancient Appian Way and just a few kilometers from the famous Royal Palace of Caserta, Casagiove preserves a significant historical heritage, from the 18th-century Bourbon Military Quarter to its historic churches. The festival of Saint Michael is thus also an opportunity to discover a village of the Terra di Lavoro and its identity, suspended between Bourbon memory and lively Campanian popular tradition.
The patronal feast is traditionally celebrated on September 29th, the liturgical day of Saint Michael the Archangel. For the detailed program of the edition, including times for the procession and side events, it is recommended to consult the official channels of the parish and the Municipality of Casagiove.
For 2026, Casagiove is once again preparing to celebrate its patron saint, Saint Michael the Archangel, on the traditional date of September 29th. As every year, the program is expected to include the Solemn Holy Mass, the procession of the 18th-century statue of the Archangel, and civil celebrations in the square. The detailed program, including times and events, will be announced by the parish and the Municipality of Casagiove closer to the festival.
The celebrations take place in the center of Casagiove (Postal Code 81022), in the province of Caserta, centered around the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel and the streets of the town along the procession route.
Casagiove is easily accessible by car from the A1 motorway (Caserta Nord exit) and is just a few kilometers from the center of Caserta and the Royal Palace. The Caserta railway station is well-connected; from there, you can continue by bus or taxi.
Participation in religious rites and events in the square is free and open to all.
