A re-enactment of the Nativity through the streets of Grazzanise, in the province of Caserta
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Terra di Lavoro, the Grazzanise Living Nativity is one of the most anticipated Christmas events in the province of Caserta. Every December, the streets of the Grazzanise town center come alive to host a grand representation of the Nativity, where dozens of costumed performers recreate the atmosphere of an ancient village.
Along the route, which mainly winds through Via Volturno and the historic center, visitors encounter scenes of daily life from times past: ancient trades, artisan workshops, shepherds, the Three Wise Men, and the Holy Family. The re-enactment blends the religious significance of the nativity scene with the rediscovery of popular traditions and the rural culture of Campania.
One of the most appreciated aspects is the opportunity to sample typical local products along the way: traditional dishes, Christmas sweets, and local specialties offered in the workshops set up for the occasion. The Living Nativity thus becomes an opportunity to showcase the food and wine of the lower Volturno area.
Reaching its 15th edition in 2025, the Living Nativity is organized by the Living Nativity Organizing Team with the support of the Municipality of Grazzanise and the participation of numerous associations and parishes. The initiative involves a large number of volunteers every year and represents a moment of strong identity for the entire community.
The Living Nativity is part of a broader calendar of Christmas events promoted by the Municipality, which offers torchlight processions, nativity scene lightings, shows, bingo games, and activities for children throughout the holidays. A program that brings the town to life from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception until Epiphany.
The event is traditionally held during the Christmas season, usually on December 26th, St. Stephen's Day, starting in the late afternoon. Admission is free, and the event is suitable for families and children. Grazzanise is located in Campania, in the province of Caserta, a short distance from the Volturno River and the main towns of the Caserta plain.
The Grazzanise Living Nativity is expected to return in December 2026, as it does every year, along the streets of the center of the Municipality of Grazzanise, in the province of Caserta. At the moment, the organization has not yet released official dates and programs for the edition: information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. The event is expected to feature, as per tradition, the Nativity route along the streets of the center with costumed performers, ancient crafts, and tastings of local products. Dates and times will be confirmed by the Living Nativity Organizing Team and the Municipality of Grazzanise.
Grazzanise (CE) can be reached by car from the Capua motorway exit (A1) or from Santa Maria Capua Vetere, continuing along the provincial roads of the Volturno plain. The nearest train stations are Capua and Santa Maria Capua Vetere, which are connected to Caserta and Naples.
Access to the Living Nativity is free. We recommend comfortable clothing suitable for the winter season, as the route takes place outdoors along the streets of the town center.
