The Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy is one of Italy's most prestigious classical music events, organized by the Fondazione Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. For the 2026 edition, titled "Isole" (Islands), the festival presents over one hundred concerts not only in Siena but also in the most evocative locations across the Tuscan landscape. Among these, the Municipality of Sovicille, in the Province of Siena, hosts a special appointment in its ancient parish church.
The Pieve of Ponte allo Spino
The Pieve di San Giovanni Battista in Ponte allo Spino is considered one of the most interesting Romanesque monuments in the Sienese countryside. Mentioned as early as 1050 and linked to the Vallombrosan monk tradition, it features three naves divided by cruciform pillars, apses, a tiburio decorated externally with hanging arches, and a Lombard-style bell tower. The acoustics and the intimate atmosphere of this sacred space, nestled in the landscape of the Montagnola Senese, make it an ideal setting for chamber music.
The Piano Course students
The stars of the evening are the students of the Piano Course of the 95th Chigiana Summer Academy, under the guidance of the renowned pianist Lilya Zilberstein. The Chigiana "Musical Appointments" give a voice to the young talents who arrive in Siena from all over the world every summer to refine their skills with the Academy's great masters. It is an opportunity to hear emerging performers in an intimate, high-level setting.
A summer of music in Tuscany
The 2026 "Isole" edition unfolds throughout the summer with over one hundred concerts, more than eight hundred artists, and a repertoire ranging from Renaissance music to the great classical canon, and from historical avant-garde to contemporary music. The Ponte allo Spino event, organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Sovicille, represents one of the key pieces in bringing great music to the heart of the Tuscan countryside.

How to get there
The Pieve of Ponte allo Spino is located in the Municipality of Sovicille, about 12 km west of Siena. By car, it can be reached from the SS73 Senese-Aretina road by following signs for Sovicille; there is ample parking nearby. By train, the reference station is Siena, which is then connected to Sovicille by local buses.
