The widespread music of Chieti Classica under the starry sky of Collepietro
In the summer of 2026, Chieti Classica — International Music Festival expands its horizons beyond the historic center of Chieti, bringing its widespread music concept to the villages of the Abruzzo hinterland. Among the off-site stops of the event is Collepietro, a small town of just over two hundred inhabitants perched at an altitude of about 850 meters in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the mountainous Abruzzo region.
The evening takes place at the open-air stellar observatory of Collepietro, a panoramic space overlooking the clear skies of the plateau, where the village's silence and distance from city lights offer an ideal setting for listening to music and observing the firmament. The festival, directed by Maestro Giuliano Mazzoccante and organized in collaboration with ArtEnsemble, chooses this evocative location to combine the pleasure of live music with the contemplation of the night sky.
Chieti Classica was born in Chieti as an international classical music festival, featuring concerts, masterclasses, and great soloists from all over the world. The decision to reach towns like Collepietro reflects the festival's vocation to bring great music to small communities, enhancing lesser-known places in the Abruzzo interior and offering residents and visitors a significant cultural opportunity right on their doorstep.
Like most of the festival's events, the Collepietro concert is free of charge, consistent with Chieti Classica's philosophy of making quality music accessible to everyone. The evening at the observatory represents one of the most original moments on the program, capable of combining musical tradition, mountain landscapes, and a passion for astronomy in a single event.
For the Municipality of Collepietro and the entire inland area of the L'Aquila province, the arrival of Chieti Classica is an important summer cultural event. The initiative helps highlight the tourism and landscape potential of Abruzzo's villages, often far from major circuits but rich in identity and evocative views, and testifies to the growing bond between the festival and the Abruzzo region.
On July 18, 2026, at 9:00 PM, Chieti Classica reaches the village of Collepietro, in the province of L'Aquila, for one of its most evocative off-site stops. The event takes place at the village's open-air stellar observatory, a panoramic space ideal for combining music listening with night-sky contemplation.
Taking the stage is the group Terzacorsia, performing a tribute to Lucio Battisti that covers the most beloved songs of the great Italian singer-songwriter. The evening is part of the ninth edition of Chieti Classica (July 1-20, 2026), directed by Maestro Giuliano Mazzoccante, which in 2026 expands its reach to include the provinces of L'Aquila and Pescara.
Like almost all events in the festival, the concert is free of charge, blending popular songwriting, Abruzzo mountain landscapes, and a passion for astronomy.
Collepietro is located in the province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo interior. By car, it can be reached from the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway (Bussi/Popoli or Pratola Peligna-Sulmona exits), continuing along the provincial roads that climb toward the plateau. The nearest train station is in Sulmona, from where you can continue by car.
Free admission. No reservation required.
As this is an outdoor evening event at an altitude of about 850 meters, it is recommended to bring clothing suitable for cool evening temperatures. Updated program and times are available on the official website chieticlassica.com.
