About Rue di Libri

In the heart of the Pescara province, Castiglione a Casauria hosts the return of Rue di Libri, a widespread festival that every July transforms this Abruzzo village into an open-air literary salon. Organized by the Interpromium APS association, the event weaves together literature, visual arts, and the oral traditions of Abruzzo across two evocative venues: the ancient Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria and the panoramic terrace of the Tenuta Secolo IX. Free-entry meetings with authors, book presentations, exhibitions, and concerts bring four summer Saturdays to life.

Rue di Libri: an open-air literary salon

In the small village of Castiglione a Casauria, in the province of Pescara, at the foot of the Abruzzo mountains and just a stone's throw from the Abbey of San Clemente, Rue di Libri – Stories, Dialogues, Books comes to life every July. This widespread literary festival has successfully given the village streets a new purpose, centered on encounter, dialogue, and culture. Born in 2022 from the initiative of the Interpromium APS association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Castiglione a Casauria, the event has established itself over the years as one of the most vibrant cultural outposts in inland Abruzzo.

A festival between an abbey and a panoramic terrace

The event takes place over four consecutive Saturdays in July, alternating between two fascinating settings: the millenary sanctity of the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria, one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Abruzzo, and the evocative panoramic terrace of the Tenuta Secolo IX. In this setting, literature, contemporary graphic art, historical reportage, and popular memory intertwine in a program designed to enhance Abruzzo's cultural heritage.

Literature, art, and oral traditions

Each edition brings together authors, illustrators, scholars, and musicians, with a particular focus on the region's identity. Alongside book presentations and meetings with writers, the festival hosts exhibitions and visual projects—such as The Abruzzeser, a graphic project dedicated to Abruzzo—as well as moments dedicated to music and the region's traditional oral repertoire. The widespread festival format allows visitors to rediscover the village, its alleys, and its iconic landmarks, engaging both the local community and visitors.

A local cultural network

Rue di Libri stems from the collaboration between local entities: in addition to Interpromium APS and the Municipality, the festival is supported by the Regional Museums of Abruzzo, the University of the Third Age of Castiglione a Casauria, and local partners such as the Tenuta Secolo IX and Rustichella d'Abruzzo. All events are free to attend until capacity is reached, in line with the festival's popular and inclusive vocation.
