The widespread jazz festival of the Peligna Valley stops in Raiano, featuring music and excursions
Muntagninjazz is one of the longest-running festivals in inland Abruzzo: a widespread festival that every summer combines music, art, and nature, connecting the territories of the Peligna Valley, the Alto Sangro, and the Sagittario Valley. Established in 2007, it has grown to involve ten municipalities in the area, including Raiano, a village in the province of L'Aquila known for its Gole di San Venanzio (San Venanzio Gorges) and the famous hermitage carved into the rock along the Aterno River.
In Raiano, the festival offers its most characteristic format: on one hand, evening concerts in Piazza Umberto Postiglione, the heart of the town, with free admission; on the other, the concert-hike, which allows you to experience music while walking in nature. This is where jazz leaves traditional stages to accompany walks toward the most evocative spots in the area, such as the Hermitage of San Venanzio, suspended over the waters of the Aterno.
The program ranges from contemporary jazz to singer-songwriter music, from funk and blues to world music and folk. Alongside the concerts, the festival weaves together hikes, theater, meetings, and tastings of local, zero-mile products, highlighting the flavors and landscapes of the Abruzzo mountains. Artistically directed by Daniele Quaglieri and organized by the Muntagninjazz APS association, the festival has turned music into an opportunity for territorial promotion and cohesion among inland communities.
The Raiano stop is part of a broader schedule that, between late July and August, touches villages and landscapes in the province of L'Aquila, in Abruzzo. For those visiting the region, Muntagninjazz is the ideal opportunity to discover the small towns of the Peligna Valley with a live soundtrack, between the slopes of the Maiella and Monte Sirente, in an experience that combines culture, hiking, and scenery.
For its twentieth anniversary, Muntagninjazz returns from July 23 to August 22, 2026, involving ten municipalities of inland Abruzzo: Sulmona, Introdacqua, Capestrano, Pratola Peligna, Raiano, Pacentro, Anversa degli Abruzzi, Prezza, Campo di Giove, and Bugnara. In Raiano, the festival offers two events at the beginning of August, between the square and nature, under the artistic direction of Daniele Quaglieri.
Raiano is located in the province of L'Aquila, along the Peligna Valley. By car, it is reachable from the A25 motorway (Pratola Peligna-Sulmona exit), just a few kilometers from the village. The Raiano train station is served by the Rome-Sulmona-Pescara line.
Concerts in the squares and concert-hikes in Raiano have free admission. For paid performances scheduled in other stages of the festival (particularly in Sulmona), tickets are available online via the Ciaotickets circuit and at authorized points of sale.
For the concert-hike, trekking shoes, water, and comfortable clothing are recommended. Information and the updated program are available on the official festival website.
