A jazz-infused tribute to Italian songwriting, held in the former San Francesco convent
Eco di un Mito is the concert that brings world-class live music every summer to Carapelle Calvisio, one of the most charming and intimate villages in Abruzzo. Perched on the Navelli plateau at the foot of the Gran Sasso massif, in the province of L'Aquila, the event offers a journey through our country's musical memory, reinterpreting classic Italian singer-songwriter hits with a refined jazz twist, featuring sophisticated arrangements and plenty of room for improvisation.
The concert takes place in the former San Francesco convent, a Franciscan complex dating back to the 15th century, whose church still preserves frescoes from the 15th to the 17th centuries. Restored and returned to the community, the convent has become the heart of the village's cultural life and the natural home for summer music festivals. Performing within these ancient stone walls, under the starlit Abruzzo sky, adds an intimate and suspended atmosphere to the concert that few other settings can offer.
The festival is promoted by the Officina della Musica of Carapelle Calvisio, an organization that hosts educational and musical activities in the village throughout the year. The stage features artists of recognized experience in the Italian jazz scene: the evening showcases vocalists and pianists capable of transforming beloved Italian songs into something new, balancing singer-songwriter sensitivity with the freedom of jazz language.
True to the communal spirit of this small town, Eco di un Mito is a free-admission event, designed to welcome both local residents and visitors who spend their summer in this corner of Abruzzo. It is the perfect opportunity to combine the discovery of Carapelle Calvisio, with its medieval alleys and views over the Navelli Plain, with an evening of high-quality music in one of Italy's most authentic regions.
The new edition of Eco di un Mito will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 9:00 PM in the former San Francesco convent in Carapelle Calvisio (AQ). The concert features Mario Rosini — vocals and piano, one of Italy's most appreciated jazz performers, professor at the Matera Conservatory, and a former Sanremo Festival participant — alongside pianist Michele Francesconi. Together, they will guide the audience on a journey through our country's musical memory, reinterpreting the most beloved Italian songs in an elegant jazz style. Admission is free.
Carapelle Calvisio can be reached by car from the L'Aquila Est exit (A24 motorway), continuing towards the Navelli Plain along the SS17. The village is about 40 minutes from the provincial capital, L'Aquila. The nearest train station is L'Aquila, which is connected by local transport.
The concert is free to attend and takes place in the evening, starting around 9:00 PM. We recommend arriving early to secure a seat in the former San Francesco convent.
Summer evenings at this altitude can be cool: it is advisable to bring a warm layer. Nearby, you can combine your visit with a tour of the Baronia di Carapelle villages and hiking in the Gran Sasso National Park.
