About Cervino Living Nativity

Every December, the Cervino Living Nativity transforms the ancient village in the province of Caserta into a captivating Bethlehem of the past. Spanning over a kilometer of narrow alleys, more than 250 performers bring dozens of scenes to life, featuring the Nativity, ancient trades, folk music, and traditional aromas. It is an immersive, meticulously crafted journey that blends faith, theater, and gastronomy in one of Campania's most beloved Christmas re-enactments.

A journey through time in the alleys of Cervino

Every year, in the heart of winter, the historic center of Cervino, a small town in the province of Caserta, Campania, transforms into a grand open-air Bethlehem. The Cervino Living Nativity is not merely a static display, but a true immersive spectacle: a route stretching over a kilometer that winds through the streets and alleys of the village, from Via Toniolo to the town squares, where every corner tells a different story.

Over 250 performers and fifty scenes

The heart of the event is community participation: more than 250 performers animate over fifty scenes, bringing to life a narrative that spans different eras. From the Nativity of Bethlehem to the workshops of ancient trades, where artisans demonstrate period tools and crafts, the journey continues through the atmosphere of 18th-century Naples and traditional folk music. Along the way, visitors encounter shepherds, merchants, spinners, fishmongers, and a multitude of characters who recreate the daily life of a bygone era.

Music, theater, and special guests

What sets the Cervino Living Nativity apart is the almost cinematic attention to set design, costumes, and lighting, which has turned the village into a genuine film set. The performances are accompanied by great music: in past editions, the event has hosted concerts by artists such as Enzo Gragnaniello and Roberto Colella, as well as local theater companies and musicians. There is no shortage of food and wine stalls, where visitors can sample the traditional flavors of Campania throughout the route.

An event by the Municipality of Cervino

The event is organized by the Cermes For Arte e Cultura Association, led by president Enzo Razzano, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Cervino and its administration. It is a collective project involving the entire citizenry and various local associations, holding significant cultural and social value for the community in the province of Caserta.

A success that grows year by year

Established in 2023, the festival has grown rapidly: the very first edition recorded thousands of attendees, while the most recent edition exceeded a thousand visitors in a single evening, with record-breaking numbers for its social media live streams. The Cervino Living Nativity has thus established itself as one of the most anticipated Christmas events in Campania, attracting visitors from across the province and beyond.

Cervino Living Nativity — edition 2026

Following the great success of the first three editions, the Cervino Living Nativity is expected to return for Christmas 2026. As per tradition, the event is expected to take place in December in the historic center of the village, featuring the usual route of over a kilometer animated by hundreds of performers. Official dates and the detailed program have not yet been announced by the organizers.
