The Castelluccia village of Castel Morrone by candlelight
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Candele al Borgo is one of the most anticipated autumn events in the municipality of Castel Morrone, in the province of Caserta, in the heart of Campania. Every year, at the end of November, the ancient Castelluccia village in the Largisi district switches off its electric lights to glow with over ten thousand candles: small flames housed in glass jars that trace an enchanted path through alleys, courtyards, stone arches, stairways, and cellars.
Visitors wander through the village following the flickering light of the candles, which turns every corner into a scene suspended in time. The houses, portals, and courtyards retain the look of the old rural core and become a stage for light installations: chandeliers made from glass jars, illuminated wooden stairs, and crates transformed into lanterns. The atmosphere is that of a living nativity scene combined with a Christmas fairy tale.
Along the route, visitors encounter street performers, jugglers, and glowing stilt walkers who guide the crowd, while local folk musicians enliven the courtyards and small squares. Past editions have featured scenic settings inspired by fairy tales, with costumed characters and spaces dedicated to music, such as courtyards set up with instruments and staircases transformed into piano keyboards.
The event also has a strong food and wine appeal: along the path, you will find roasted chestnuts, tastings of local products, and specialties from the Caserta peasant tradition, perfect for warming up late autumn evenings.
Candele al Borgo is conceived and organized by the cultural association Le Donne Fanno Sempre Storia, which involves the Largisi community in setting up the village every year. The event traditionally dedicates a space to the November 25th commemoration, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, combining the celebration with a message of awareness. It is an appointment that enhances the heritage of the small village and effectively opens the Christmas festival calendar of Castel Morrone and the Medio Volturno area.
Following the success of the eighth edition in 2025, Candele al Borgo is expected to return in late November 2026 to illuminate the Castelluccia village of Castel Morrone. At the moment, the Le Donne Fanno Sempre Storia association has not yet communicated the official date or the detailed program. It is recommended to follow the organization's social media channels to learn about the date, times, and participation details.
