The grand masquerade parade returns to the heart of this Cuneo village
The Cervasca Carnival Parade is one of the most cherished events of the carnival season in the municipality of Cervasca, located in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of southern Piedmont. After several years of absence, the event has returned to enliven the town's streets thanks to the collaboration between the Santa Maria Maddalena Parish, the local municipality, and numerous volunteers dedicated to reviving a tradition dear to the residents.
The parade winds through the town center, starting from the kindergarten square and traveling along Via Ubacco, Via Borgo San Dalmazzo, and Via Roma, before concluding in Piazza Dottor Bernardi. Here, at the end of the procession, the spectacular confetti battle takes place—the moment most anticipated by children—followed by the distribution of a snack offered to all participants while supplies last. Allegorical floats, costumes, and masquerade groups transform the town into a grand open-air stage.
The Cervasca Carnival is deeply rooted in local peasant culture. Over the years, the town center has seen characters that embody the community's rural soul, such as Tota Bignetta, inspired by the typical Piedmontese fritter; Vin Bon, a symbol of good wine and shared toasts; and Pisacan, linked to the local mushroom, a product that remains a distinctive trait of the territory today. These figures form a cultural heritage that the revival of the parade aims to celebrate.
The edition marking the event's return brought together six masquerade groups from Cervasca and neighboring towns in the Granda area, including majorettes and award-winning groups from the region. The atmosphere is that of a classic village carnival: music, joy, families celebrating, and a strong sense of belonging that unites different generations.
The Cervasca Carnival Parade is much more than just a masquerade party: it is a sign of the vitality of a community that has chosen to reclaim its roots and pass them on to new generations in the municipality of Cervasca, Piedmont.
