Twelve hours of live music in the heart of Cava de' Tirreni on May Day
The Cava Music Fest was born in 2026 with a simple and ambitious vision: to restore to Cava de' Tirreni, in the province of Salerno, the status of a 'city of music' that it had earned in the 1970s and 80s. The festival fills the May 1st holiday with continuous programming that runs from morning until late at night, spread across two main stages and a family-dedicated area. It is an urban, open-access event: you can walk from one square to another under the porticoes that are the most recognizable feature of the town center.
The day kicks off at the Palazzo San Giovanni Gardens with the Morning Club, a series of free-entry DJ sets designed for a younger audience, accompanied by a food and beverage area. In the afternoon, the focus shifts to Piazza Duomo, where the Main Stage hosts live performances until late at night: first, emerging artists from the Campania scene, followed by the festival's headliners. Piazza Passaro hosts the children's area, with inflatables, rides, and entertainment, ensuring the festival is accessible to families during the day.
The festival is dedicated to the memory of Franco Troiano, a local promoter who, between the 1970s and 1990s, brought some of the most important national and international music acts to the city, helping to make Cava de' Tirreni a key stop on major tours. This dedication is more than symbolic: the artistic direction of Cava Music Fest aims to balance popular headliners with a strong focus on emerging artists, with a significant portion of the program reserved for local bands and songwriters.
The event is promoted by the Morini 50 Film APS association, with artistic direction by Vincenzo Falcone and Pierluigi Di Florio, in co-organization with the Municipality of Cava de' Tirreni. The project is supported by private sponsors and co-funded by the Salerno Chamber of Commerce, in a model that unites associations, local government, and the city's business community.
A city nestled between the Lattari Mountains and the Amalfi Coast, Cava de' Tirreni is one of the most populous centers in the province of Salerno and boasts a long-standing tradition of outdoor events, from the Corpus Domini to the Disfida dei Trombonieri. Cava Music Fest joins this tradition with a contemporary flair and has complemented the city's bid for the Italian Capital of Culture. For those visiting Campania in spring, the festival is the perfect opportunity to discover a porticoed historic center just minutes from Salerno, Vietri sul Mare, and the gateway to the Amalfi Coast.
Free admission and the distributed layout make Cava Music Fest an event to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace: start at the gardens in the late morning, wander through the city streets and local shops, and arrive at Piazza Duomo for the evening performances. Food and promotional stands are available throughout the day. Given the high turnout at the debut, it is advisable to arrive early and explore the center on foot.
The first edition of the Cava Music Fest took place on Friday, May 1st, 2026, in Cava de' Tirreni, promoted by Morini 50 Film APS with artistic direction by Vincenzo Falcone and Pierluigi Di Florio, in co-organization with the Municipality. The program was spread across three spaces in the center: the Palazzo San Giovanni Gardens for the daytime, Piazza Duomo for the main stage, and Piazza Passaro for the children's area.
The debut concluded with approximately 30,000 attendees in the heart of the city, a result that organizers interpreted as confirmation of a previously unmet demand for culture and major events. In the following days, the festival was associated with the path through which Cava de' Tirreni relaunched its bid for the Italian Capital of Culture. Admission was free for all areas, with food and promotional stands active throughout the day.
By train: The Cava de' Tirreni station is on the Naples-Salerno line via Nocera Inferiore and is just a few minutes' walk from the historic center and Piazza Duomo.
By car: Take the Cava de' Tirreni exit on the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway. On the day of the festival, traffic restrictions are in place in the center: it is recommended to leave your car in peripheral parking areas and continue on foot.
By plane: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi Airport and Naples-Capodichino Airport, both connected to Salerno.
Free admission to all areas. Morning Club at the Palazzo San Giovanni Gardens from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Main Stage in Piazza Duomo from the afternoon until approximately 1:00 AM, children's area in Piazza Passaro.
