A rustic festival on the Ardea coast

The Castrato and Country Flavors Festival is the gastronomic heart of the "Lido dei Pini in Festa" summer series, which brings Lido dei Pini to life every year. This seaside district of the Municipality of Ardea, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region, hosts this event annually. Originally conceived as a village celebration rooted in the agricultural and pastoral traditions of the Roman coast, the festival is organized by the Il Vecchio Ovile farm (the Frasca family) with the patronage of the Municipality of Ardea. Over the years, it has become one of the most anticipated summer evenings in the Ardea area.

Castrato and farm-fresh flavors

The undisputed star is the grilled castrato, a mutton dish cooked over charcoal according to local pastoral traditions, accompanied by typical countryside products: sausages, cheeses, seasonal vegetables, and the genuine "country flavors" that give the festival its name. The tastings take place in the Via delle Palme sports field area, set up with ample outdoor dining spaces where families gather to dine under the stars in a simple, convivial atmosphere.

Music, dancing, and entertainment

Each evening follows the same well-tested rhythm: the children's playground opens in the late afternoon, gastronomic tastings begin in the early evening, and the late evening is dedicated to live music, with dance orchestras, ballroom bands, and local groups that get everyone, young and old, out on the dance floor. Recent editions have featured a variety of local artists and musical ensembles, ensuring evenings filled with popular entertainment.

The Castrato Festival kicks off the long summer calendar of "Lido dei Pini in Festa", which offers other traditional local festivals in the following weeks, such as the Fish Festival and the Amatriciana Festival, along with vehicle rallies and closing evenings with fireworks. The program is designed to celebrate the identity of the seaside village of Ardea and its agricultural and coastal heritage.
