The traditional hunting-themed festival in Piazza del Popolo, Ardea
The Hunters' Festival is one of the most deeply rooted and cherished events in the calendar of Ardea, a city in the Province of Rome overlooking the southern coast of Lazio. Each September, the event brings the authentic taste of country cooking and hunting heritage to Piazza del Popolo, in a popular celebration that blends gastronomy, music, and social spirit.
Organized by the Pro Loco Ardea APS, the festival marks the end of the Ardea summer season and attracts residents, families, and visitors from neighboring towns and the entire Roman coastline.
The Hunters' Festival is part of the Ardea Summer 2026 program, a series of events running from July to September that brings the entire municipal area to life with concerts, shows, film screenings, and traditional festivities. The Municipality of Ardea supports the event through a grant dedicated to local associations, recognizing its cultural and identity value for the local community.
Held in September, the festival serves as a true farewell to the warm season: as the evenings begin to cool, the square fills with long tables, enticing aromas, and joy.
The heart of the event is its traditional game-based cuisine, featuring wild game dishes and rustic recipes that tell the story of the ancient bond between the Ardea community, the countryside, and the surrounding Mediterranean scrub. Food stalls offer specialties prepared according to local recipes, accompanied by wines from the Castelli and the Lazio coast.
The choice of Piazza del Popolo as the venue is no coincidence: it is the quintessential civic space of Ardea and the hub of town life. During the festival, the square transforms into a large meeting place with outdoor seating, live music, and entertainment for all ages, creating an atmosphere of authentic village conviviality.
The Hunters' Festival preserves the spirit of traditional central Italian village fairs. Born to celebrate a trade and a culture linked to the land, it has become over the years a shared celebration that brings together families, young people, and visitors alikeโan important pillar of Ardea's identity and its Pro Loco, the guardian of the town's popular traditions.
The Hunters' Festival returns to Ardea from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, 2026, in Piazza del Popolo. The event is confirmed as part of the Ardea Summer 2026 program and is organized by the Pro Loco Ardea APS, which has been managing its setup and culinary offerings for years.
Three evenings dedicated to traditional flavors and conviviality, with outdoor dining, game specialties, and local dishes, accompanied by music and entertainment. The detailed program with times and events will be published by the Pro Loco Ardea in the weeks leading up to the event.
