About Castello in Fiore

Every spring, the historic center of Formigine, at the foot of its medieval castle, transforms into a large open-air garden. Castello in Fiore is the flower and plant market organized by the Pro Loco "Oltre il Castello": a weekend in March dedicated to flowers, plants, specialized nursery gardeners, and exhibitors from various Italian regions. Between Piazza Calcagnini and the village streets, you'll find stalls selling flowers and plants, artistic crafts, workshops for children, folk dances, and a food stand with the famous gnocco fritto. A free event that announces the arrival of the beautiful season in the province of Modena.

Castello in Fiore, spring blossoms in Formigine

As the calendar approaches spring, the historic center of Formigine, in the province of Modena, dons its most vibrant colors. Castello in Fiore is the flower and plant market that has enlivened the village at the foot of the famous medieval castle for eighteen editions, transforming squares and streets into a true open-air garden. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Formigine "Oltre il Castello" and traditionally takes place over a weekend in March, with completely free admission.

Flowers, plants, and nursery gardeners from all over Italy

The heart of the event is the large flower and plant exhibition: about twenty nursery gardeners and florists, from various Italian regions, set up their stalls with flowers, ornamental plants, fragrant essences, and ideas for the garden. Accompanied by them, a selection of exhibitors of objects, artistic crafts, and local products, located along via Trento Trieste and via San Francesco, leading to the charming Piazza Calcagnini, under the castle walls.

Folk traditions and activities for families

Castello in Fiore is not just a flower market: it's a village festival that blends nature, culture, and conviviality. The collateral program includes folk dances performed by the Pro Loco dance group, a tribute to Emilia's rural traditions, floral and painting workshops for children, and an exhibition dedicated to Formigine painters. There is also a gastronomic corner, with the Pro Loco stand and the aroma of gnocco fritto, a symbolic dish of Modenese cuisine.

A village to discover

The setting is the historic center of Formigine, dominated by the castle, one of the most representative monuments of medieval Emilia-Romagna. During the event, the shops in the center remain open, making Castello in Fiore the ideal occasion for a spring outing that combines green shopping, a stroll through the stalls, and the discovery of local heritage.
