About Castellaneta Carnival

The Castellaneta Carnival, also known as "A Carnival Fairytale," is the masquerade festival that brings the streets of the historic center of this town in the province of Taranto, Puglia, to life every February. Revived in 2024 by the "Allegra Brigata" Committee with the patronage of the Municipality, the event features parades of masked groups, choreography, music, and dance performances designed primarily for children and families, in a colorful and joyful atmosphere that has rediscovered the warmth of a beloved local tradition.

The Castellaneta Carnival

The Castellaneta Carnival is one of the most cherished popular festivals in this town in the province of Taranto, in the heart of the Ionian Puglia region. After years of absence, the event was brought back to life in 2024 thanks to the efforts of the "Allegra Brigata" Committee, in collaboration with the municipal administration and the Trade District. In the past, the festival attracted visitors from across the northwestern Tarantino area, and its rebirth has served as a strong signal of community participation.

A Rediscovered Tradition

The 2024 restart involved over six hundred active participants, with the support of local businesses. The edition was inspired by the theme of the four elements—Water, Earth, Air, and Fire—featuring masked parades along the city streets, four choreographic performances dedicated to each element, and a final party at the municipal amphitheater, in addition to the traditional Grand Ball at the Palazzo Baronale.

"A Carnival Fairytale"

Under the title "A Carnival Fairytale," the event has taken on an even more family-oriented and whimsical character, with a program designed specifically for children. Parades of masked groups traverse the center, animated by music, colors, and costumes, concluding with dance performances by local groups such as the Obsession Dance Academy. It is a widespread celebration that transforms squares and streets into a large open-air stage.

The Route Through the Heart of the City

The parades wind through the streets of the center of Castellaneta, from the portico area of Via San Francesco to the main squares, involving merchants, associations, and families. The Carnival is an opportunity to rediscover the historic center of the city—also known as the birthplace of actor Rodolfo Valentino—in a festive and inclusive setting.

An Event for the Whole Family

  • Masked group parades through the city center
  • Choreography and dance performances
  • Activities and entertainment dedicated to children
  • Music, colors, and costumes in a festive popular atmosphere

The Castellaneta Carnival is a free, open-air event that strengthens the bond between the community and its traditions, inviting residents and visitors alike to experience the joy typical of the Puglian carnival season.
