The village turns pink for the passage of the Giro d'Italia
When the Giro d'Italia passes through a region, it always leaves its mark: and Castel Guelfo di Bologna, a small municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna, wanted to turn the riders' passage into a true community celebration. The event Castel Guelfo says hello to the Giro d'Italia, renamed Castel Guelfo in Pink, was created to celebrate the passage of the Cervia-Corno alle Scale race stage along the historic SP31 'Colunga'.
For two days, the center of Castel Guelfo came alive around Piazzale Dante Alighieri and Via Nuova, the two central squares of the festival. Shop windows, balconies, and streets decorated with the race's symbolic color, food stalls, a pink aperitif, inflatables for the little ones, and live music accompanied the wait for the highlight: the cyclists' passage, expected around 2:13 PM to 2:21 PM.
The main day combined the passion for cycling with a love for good food and music. A free cycling rally allowed enthusiasts to pedal before the professionals arrived, while the official stop of the Giro caravan along Via Nuova brought gadgets, entertainment, and a live broadcast by RTL 102.5 to the heart of the town. What made the initiative especially special was its spirit of solidarity: the proceeds from the event were donated to the local section of the Italian Red Cross for the purchase of a new ambulance.
The event was organized by the Municipality of Castel Guelfo di Bologna together with the Pro Loco of Castel Guelfo APS and numerous local associations. An example of how a major national sporting event can become an opportunity to enhance a small village in the Province of Bologna and strengthen the sense of belonging of its inhabitants.
For two days, Saturday, May 16th, and Sunday, May 17th, 2026, Castel Guelfo di Bologna was painted pink for the passage of the Giro d'Italia. The main event was on Sunday, with the riders passing on the SP31 'Colunga' between approximately 2:13 PM and 2:21 PM, preceded and followed by a rich program of entertainment, gastronomy, and music in the heart of the village.
Main day of the event, from 9:00 AM until late afternoon, divided between Piazzale Dante Alighieri and Via Nuova.
The heart of the festival was Piazzale Dante Alighieri, with the caravan stop point on Via Nuova (number 14/A, opposite Coop Reno). The riders' passage occurred on the SP31 'Colunga'.
Castel Guelfo di Bologna can be reached by car from the Via Emilia (SS9) or from the Imola highway exit on the A14, a few kilometers from the village. The nearest train station is Imola, connected by local buses.
For the two days of May 16-17, 2026, the Municipality issued an ordinance from the Local Police, imposing parking and traffic bans in the area of Piazza Dante Alighieri (from 7:00 AM to midnight) and in the surrounding parking lots.
Access to the festival and the cycling rally was free; food stalls were paid, with proceeds going to the Red Cross.
