Three days of roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and autumn flavours in the historic centre of Osimo
Every year, towards the end of October, the historic centre of Osimo, an elegant town in the province of Ancona in the Marche region, is adorned with the colours and scents of autumn. The Festa d'Autunno, known by all for its delicious core, the Castagna Day, is one of those events that have become part of the city's identity: a long weekend where the chestnut, the queen of the season, becomes the absolute protagonist in the streets and squares of the village.
The common thread of the festival is naturally the steaming roasted chestnuts, accompanied by the inevitable mulled wine that warms autumn evenings. But the food and wine experience goes much further: along the streets of the centre, you'll find stands with sandwiches, French fries, chestnut cake, beer, and wine, while on weekend days, proper dining moves under the evocative arches of the Cloister of San Francesco, where you can enjoy typical regional menus in an intimate and cosy atmosphere.
Accompanying the experience is the market of typical products, which brings the artisanal and agri-food excellences of the Marche to the square, ideal for a stroll among tastings and purchases.
The festival is not just about food. Every evening, the programme features live music and shows, with folk groups, bands, and tributes animating the squares until late at night. For nature enthusiasts, there is the mycology exhibition, dedicated to the mushrooms and wild herbs of the area, while the wheel of fortune adds a touch of games and prizes.
Great space is also reserved for children, with face painting, soap bubble shows, workshops, and entertainment that make the event suitable for the whole family.
The Castagna Day is promoted by the Municipality of Osimo in collaboration with the ASSO association and the historic Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso (Workers' Mutual Aid Society), a reality deeply rooted in the city's fabric. The chestnuts traditionally come from the chestnut groves of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines, confirming the authentic link between the festival and the territory. Admission to the town centre streets is free: you only pay for what you choose to eat or buy.
The 2026 edition of the Festa d'Autunno in Osimo (province of Ancona) is scheduled from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October 2026, in the charming historic centre of the town. The stars of the event return: the roasted chestnuts, the mulled wine, the typical Marche menus, and the market of typical products along the village streets.
As tradition dictates, the evenings will be enlivened by live music, while families and children can enjoy entertainment, face painting, and workshops. There will also be the mycology exhibition dedicated to mushrooms and wild herbs, and dining areas in the Cloister of San Francesco.
The detailed programme, with times, musical groups, and activities, will be published by the Municipality of Osimo in the weeks preceding the event.
