Three days of artisanal chocolate in Piazza Alberica, in the heart of Carrara
For an entire weekend, the central Piazza Alberica in Carraraโthe heart of the city of marble in the province of Massa-Carraraโtransforms into a grand showcase of Italian artisanal chocolate. The Artisanal Chocolate Festival, organized by the Feste del Cioccolato association with the patronage of the Municipality of Carrara and the collaboration of the local Pro Loco, brings together around twenty master chocolatiers from across Italy for three days of indulgence.
The common thread of the event is artisanal quality: the chocolatiers present creations resulting from ancient traditions passed down through generations, all free from additives and preservatives. Along the stalls, you will find pralines, bars, truffles, filled chocolates, and even authentic chocolate pizzas, in a variety of flavors ranging from dark to praline, hazelnut to fruit, and even the most curious and original offerings.
The festival is designed for all ages. Alongside the stalls, there are educational workshops (Chocolab) aimed at primary and middle school students, designed to spread a culture of conscious and responsible consumption among the youth. For children, there is the Choco Play area, managed by the Pro Loco, featuring mascots, face painting, and creative activities. During the weekend, the event engages with the rest of the historic center: the Carnival party for children and the craft market enliven the nearby streets and squares, making Carrara an ideal destination for a family outing.
Hosting a major chocolate festival in Piazza Alberica means combining two areas of excellence: on one hand, the tradition of marble that has made Carrara famous worldwide, and on the other, top-tier Italian confectionery craftsmanship. The initiative is part of the calendar of events that animate the historic center during the winter months, offering citizens and visitors from Tuscany and the nearby Versilia region an occasion for celebration, taste, and conviviality.
From January 30 to February 1, 2026, Piazza Alberica hosted the first major edition of the Artisanal Chocolate Festival of Carrara, with the patronage of the Municipality and the collaboration of the Pro Loco. About twenty stalls and as many artisan chocolatiers, arriving mainly from Sicily, Campania, Calabria, and Molise, offered the best of Italian pastry and artisanal chocolate. Despite the rain on Friday, the weekend saw a large turnout, with an excellent Saturday and an exceptional Sunday, and many visitors arriving from nearby Massa as well.
Among the artisans' offerings: pralines, truffles, bars, chocolates with licorice, coconut, rum, fruit, gianduia, and delicious chocolate pizzas. Among the novelties of the edition, the "Dubai" flavor with crunchy kataifi pastry based on rice flour.
