The wine festival that flows from the fountain

The Carosino Wine Festival, in the heart of the province of Taranto, is a historic and uninterrupted tradition held every year since 1966, typically between late August and early September, just before the grape harvest. It is one of the most iconic food and wine events in the Ionian part of Puglia: for a few days, the small town of Carosino becomes the capital of Primitivo wine, welcoming thousands of visitors.

The monumental wine fountain

The symbol of the festival is the monumental fountain in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, located in front of the Palazzo Ducale D'Ayala Valva, from which—for the occasion—wine flows instead of water. It is a unique spectacle in Italy, embodying the soul of a community deeply rooted in peasant culture and viticulture. Carosino is a member of the National Association of Wine Cities, a recognition of the strong bond between the town and the production of Primitivo di Manduria, the premier grape variety of this corner of Puglia.

Tastings, gastronomy, and folklore

The program combines culture and conviviality: guided tastings of local wines, food stalls serving traditional Apulian dishes, markets featuring local products, folk music, folklore groups, and major free evening concerts. The streets and squares of the village fill with people until late at night, in a festive atmosphere that engages all generations.

A community event

The festival is organized by the Municipality of Carosino with the support of the Puglia Region and the Province of Taranto. Over the years, it has strengthened the role of wine as a driver of culture, tourism, and the local economy. The event includes conferences, awards dedicated to the best Primitivo wines, and initiatives to promote local oenological heritage.
