The Carnival parade that colours the streets of Traversetolo's centre
The Carnival in the Masked Village is the event that transforms the streets of the centre of Traversetolo, a municipality in the province of Parma in Emilia-Romagna, into a cheerful procession of confetti, costumes, and music every year. The event is organized by Pro Loco Traversetolo in collaboration with the local parish and schools, and represents one of the most cherished moments of the Traversetolo winter, capable of attracting families and children from all over the surrounding area.
The heart of the day is the grand parade of masked groups, which begins in the afternoon from Largo Cesare Battisti and crosses the town centre to reach Piazza Fanfulla. Along the route, masks, costumed children, and musical accompaniment alternate, in a festive and participatory atmosphere. Upon arrival in the square, all the masked groups are presented, with photos, entertainment, and the distribution of gadgets and sweets.
Once in the square, the Carnival continues with games for children, entertainment shows, and moments of fun suitable for the whole family. There are also food stalls with typical sweets from the Emilia-Romagna Carnival tradition, accompanied by hot drinks to warm up the winter afternoon. The celebration is organized with the contribution of local associations and town volunteers.
The Carnival in the Masked Village is part of the rich tradition of village carnivals in Emilia-Romagna, where the celebration is primarily a moment of social gathering and community involvement. In Traversetolo, the event is free and open to all: an afternoon designed for children but capable of engaging parents, grandparents, and the entire Municipality, gathered around the colours and flavours of Carnival.
