Pedali di Carnevale: the masked parade on two wheels in the heart of Cambiano
In the landscape of Piedmontese carnivals, the Cambiano Carnival Festival stands out for its simple yet brilliant concept: replacing traditional floats with a parade of bicycles and non-motorized vehicles decorated with bright colors, masks, garlands, and confetti. This is the origin of the name by which the event is now known locally: Pedali di Carnevale (Carnival Pedals). The event takes place in the heart of this town in the southern outskirts of Turin, between Piazza Giacomo Grosso and Piazzetta Spirito Santo, in a pedestrian area that fills with joy for an afternoon.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Cambiano, an active local association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cambiano. Participation is free and open to everyone: simply show up with your bicycle or another non-motorized vehicle, creatively decorated, and wear a Carnival costume. Small trailers are allowed, while motor vehicles and materials that are fragile or harmful to the environment are excluded. For minors, parental authorization is required.
Beyond the parade, the afternoon is marked by music and entertainment for audiences of all ages. Among the most anticipated highlights is the magic show by Magic Alex, which earns applause from both adults and children. No celebration would be complete without the seasonal sweet specialties: delicious bugie (traditional Piedmontese fried pastries) accompanied by steaming hot chocolate, perfect for warming up participants in the crisp February air.
The parade also has a playfully competitive spirit: a jury awards prizes to the most beautiful bicycles in various categories, from the largest group to the most original decoration, including a special jury prize. Before the start, all vehicles undergo a technical check to ensure the safety of participants along the route.
The Carnival Festival is the ideal occasion to discover Cambiano, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin in Piedmont, and the vibrancy of its local community. It is a family-friendly event that blends creativity, tradition, and a sense of togetherness, transforming the town streets into a cheerful masked caravan.
