About Carciato Festival

The Carciato Festival is the traditional village feast of the hamlet of Carciato, in the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida, in Val di Sole (Trentino-Alto Adige). Dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of this small community, it brings together faith, folk music, and typical Val di Sole gastronomy in a single day. Concerts, a procession, and a lunch featuring polenta, peverada, and cotechino bring Piazza San Giovanni and the 18th-century village church to life, with free admission for residents and visitors alike.

The village festival of Carciato

The Carciato Festival is the traditional celebration of the hamlet of Carciato, a small village situated at an altitude of approximately 787 meters in the Val di Sole, now part of the Municipality of Dimaro Folgarida in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). It is an intimate and heartfelt event that gathers the carciadi community every year to celebrate their identity and roots, while opening the village doors to visitors passing through the valley.

Faith, music, and conviviality

The festival is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the community's patron saint, and centers around the Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, an 18th-century building that houses a fine Baroque-style Assumption painting and local artistic heritage. The program skillfully weaves together the three elements that make a Trentino village festival unique: the religious dimension, with mass and a solemn procession through the village streets; musical entertainment, featuring local choirs, bands, and folk groups; and gastronomic conviviality, with traditional Val di Sole dishes served to all participants.

The flavors of Val di Sole tradition

The culinary aspect is one of the most anticipated moments: at noon, a traditional lunch is served, featuring specialties of the Val di Sole peasant tradition, including polenta, peverada, and cotechino. In the afternoon, there is no shortage of typical desserts like strauben, along with refreshments including drinks and sandwiches to keep the celebration going until evening.

A day of community

The Carciato Festival maintains the authentic character of small mountain celebrations, far from the commercial nature of large events: it is an opportunity to rediscover the sense of belonging of a village, listen to the music of local bands and choirs, participate in the procession, and share a meal. The event, with free admission, is organized by the ASUC of Carciato with the patronage of the Municipality of Dimaro Folgarida, and represents one of the traditional highlights in the Val di Sole festival calendar.
