The historic Solandro craft fair in Fucine di Ossana
The San Michele Fair is one of the most deeply rooted autumn events in the Val di Sole, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It takes place in Fucine, a hamlet of the Municipality of Ossana (Autonomous Province of Trento), and is named after the patron saint Saint Michael the Archangel, whose feast day falls at the end of September. Once a market gathering for end-of-season trade between valley communities, the fair is now primarily a celebration of Solandro craftsmanship—a precious heritage that the territory preserves and passes on to new generations.
For the occasion, the entire village of Fucine comes to life: the town centre streets fill with stalls featuring local products, while the municipal bocce court becomes the beating heart of the local craft exhibition, set up in collaboration with the Trentino Artisans Association. The theatre, library, and playground host cultural meetings, readings, and activities for children and families, ensuring every corner of the village serves as both a showcase and a workshop.
The fair's guiding theme is know-how: master artisans provide live demonstrations of metal and copper work, ceramics and clay, and textiles and linen, reviving traditional techniques and gestures. Alongside the demonstrations, the valley's agrifood products take centre stage, with displays and tastings that tell the story of the Val di Sole's gastronomic identity. The Museum of Customs and Traditions of the Trentino People in San Michele all'Adige also participates in the programme with workshops such as "Artisans of Yesteryear," dedicated to copper plate decoration.
Set at the foot of the Ortles-Cevedale peaks and a stone's throw from the Stelvio National Park, the San Michele Fair combines cultural depth with the charm of an authentic alpine village. It is the ideal opportunity to discover Ossana and its surroundings during a day that blends craftsmanship, mountain flavours, and conviviality, making the fair a highly anticipated event for residents and visitors alike.
The event is free to enter and takes place over the weekend at the end of September. The detailed programme, including workshop and demonstration times, is released by the Fucine di Ossana tourist office and the Val di Sole Tourist Board channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
The 2026 edition of the San Michele Fair is scheduled for Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September in Fucine di Ossana, in the Val di Sole. The event will confirm its role as a celebration of Solandro craftsmanship, organised in collaboration with the Trentino Artisans Association, featuring exhibitions, live demonstrations, and family activities throughout the village streets and the municipal bocce court.
The detailed programme, including times for workshops, demonstrations, and cultural events, will be announced by the Fucine di Ossana tourist office and the Val di Sole Tourist Board in the weeks leading up to the event.
