Four days of festivities, torchlight processions, and tradition in the heart of the Canavese region
In the heart of the Canavese region, the Caravino Carnival brings back to life a popular tradition that the small town in the Province of Turin had been missing for several years. Four days of festivities, organized by the Pro Loco Caravino, transform the streets and squares into a stage for music, masks, dancing, and ancient rituals, bringing together young and old in a spirit of shared joy.
Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the Canavese towns, where each municipality preserves its own unique characters, floats, and rituals. In Caravino, the festival blends the most classic elements of the Piedmontese Carnival: the official presentation of the characters from the Town Hall balcony, the evening torchlight procession through the town accompanied by the pipers of Montalto Dora, and the conviviality of community dinners. It is an event that celebrates the local identity and the community's bond with its roots.
The Caravino Carnival is a village festival in the best sense of the word: open to families, children, residents, and visitors curious to discover the authentic traditions of the Canavese. Those looking for a genuine Carnival, far from the large tourist crowds and close to the true soul of Piedmontese communities, will find in Caravino the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the joy of the celebration.
The 2026 Caravino Carnival took place from Friday, January 30 to Monday, February 2, marking the return of a popular festival long-awaited in the town. Four days full of events, including music, dancing, games, and the most traditional rituals of the Canavese, organized by the Pro Loco Caravino.
Among the most heartfelt moments were the Friday evening torchlight procession, the Saturday polenta and salt cod dinner, the Sunday morning rooster breakfast in Piazza Marconi, and the parade of allegorical floats on the main day of the festival.
Closing day of the festival.
Caravino is located in the Canavese area, in the Province of Turin, a short distance from Ivrea. By car, it can be reached via the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway (take the Albiano-Ivrea or Scarmagno exit) and follow the signs for the town. The most convenient train station is Ivrea, from where you can continue by car or local transport.
The main events take place in the town center, between Piazza Marconi, the Town Hall, and Piazzale Pertini.
The polenta and salt cod dinner requires reservations and is subject to availability; takeaway options are available. As these are evening and outdoor events during the winter, warm clothing is recommended. For updated information and bookings, please contact the Pro Loco Caravino.
