Three nights of beer, street food, and live music in Piazza Falco, in the village of Carano, Sessa Aurunca
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Carano Beer Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in the village of Carano, located just a few kilometers from the center of Sessa Aurunca in the province of Caserta, at the northern edge of Campania. For a few nights in August, the small local community opens its doors to visitors from nearby towns, turning the main square into a large, convivial space for drinking, eating, and socializing until late at night. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense: grassroots in origin, grown year after year, and now followed well beyond the municipal borders.
The event's headquarters is Piazza Falco, in the center of Carano. For the occasion, the area is closed to vehicle traffic by a specific municipal order from Sessa Aurunca and reorganized with beer taps, food stalls, long communal tables, and a dedicated music area. The fact that the municipal administration intervenes every year with traffic management measures highlights how established this event has become in the local summer calendar.
The main theme is, of course, beer, served on tap throughout the evenings and paired with the street food typical of festivals in the province of Caserta. The formula is the classic one for Campanian village festivals: arrive as the sun sets, sit at outdoor tables, and stay until late at night, taking advantage of the evening breeze that makes August nights in the square much more pleasant than staying at home.
The Carano Beer Festival is traditionally free to enter: there are no tickets, and you only pay for what you consume at the stalls. This choice speaks volumes about the nature of the event, designed primarily to bring the people of Carano together and welcome those arriving from surrounding villages and towns, attracting everyone from families with children to groups of young people.
Carano has approximately two thousand inhabitants and is one of the many villages that make up the vast territory of the Municipality of Sessa Aurunca, a city of ancient Auruncan and Roman origins overlooking the Garigliano plain. The village stretches along the Provincial Road 104, which connects the Via Appia to the Via Domitiana, at an altitude of a few dozen meters above sea level, in a typical Caserta agricultural landscape.
Carano is best known for the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima della Libera, built around the mid-17th century and home to a medieval Marian fresco, a destination for pilgrimages from across the province of Caserta and lower Lazio for the feast on the first Sunday of May. While the spring event is the religious celebration that defines the village's identity, the August beer festival represents its secular, youthful counterpart: two distinct moments that mark the year for the Carano community.
The event is held in the first half of August: the 2025 edition took place from August 8th to 10th in Piazza Falco. Dates for the following edition are usually announced shortly before the event through the organizing committee's social media channels, local press, and notices published by the Municipality of Sessa Aurunca. Those planning a visit to the area in August should check the calendar in the days immediately preceding their arrival.
As of the update of this page, there are no official announcements regarding the 2026 edition of the Carano Beer Festival, neither on the Sessa Aurunca municipal website nor in the local Caserta press. The mention of August is therefore a forecast based on the event's usual timing, not a confirmed date.
The reference point remains Piazza Falco, in the center of the village of Carano, where the festival is traditionally held outdoors with free entry. We recommend checking dates and the program on the organizing committee's social media channels and in notices published by the Municipality of Sessa Aurunca before planning your visit: in previous years, official information, including traffic ordinances, was released only a few days before the start.
Carano can be reached via the Provincial Road 104, which connects the Via Appia (SS 7) to the Via Domitiana (SS 7 quater), about 6 kilometers from the historic center of Sessa Aurunca. By car from the A1 motorway, take the Caianello exit and continue towards Sessa Aurunca; from Rome and lower Lazio, the most convenient access is the SS 7 quater Domitiana. The reference train station is Sessa Aurunca-Roccamonfina, on the Rome-Naples line via Formia, from which you must continue by car or taxi.
During the festival evenings, Piazza Falco and adjacent streets are subject to temporary traffic closures and parking bans ordered by the Municipality: it is advisable to leave your car along the roads outside the village center and walk for a few minutes.
Free entry, no tickets or reservations required. You only pay for what you consume at the beer taps and food stalls, with typical village festival prices.
