A food and wine tour through the ancient cellars of the Maiella village

Cantine d'Inverno is the winter food and wine event that brings the historic center of Caramanico Terme to life. This spa village in the province of Pescara is nestled at the foot of the Maiella, in the heart of Abruzzo. For one evening, the village's ancient cellars reopen their doors, becoming stops on a walking tour through illuminated alleys, arches, and courtyards, where visitors can rediscover the authentic flavors of peasant tradition.
The formula that has made the event famous is the "tens": ten ancient village cellars, ten local wineries, and ten traditional dishes from the Maiella countryside. Along the route, visitors can taste local cheeses, legumes, soups, rustic recipes, traditional desserts, and locally produced wines, in a pairing that tells the story of Abruzzo's food and wine culture.
The welcome point is in Piazza Marconi, the starting point of the itinerary that winds through the streets of the historic center. Among the most evocative cellars opened in past editions are those in the Il Colle district, the one housed in the cloister of the former Clarisse convent, and the historic "Tre Marie" near the birthplace of sculptor Nicola D'Antino. These cellars were once the places where families stored demijohns, bottles, and food supplies, and where people would gather in the warmth after a day of work.
In addition to the tastings, the evening is enlivened by craft markets, live music, and theatrical performances that accompany visitors from one cellar to the next. The charm of the Maiella village, the conviviality, and the warmth of the old cellars make Cantine d'Inverno one of the most characteristic winter experiences in Abruzzo, perfect for the holiday season.
Located within the Maiella National Park, Caramanico Terme is known for its thermal waters and its medieval historic center. The event celebrates the heritage of the Municipality of Caramanico Terme, in the Province of Pescara, combining gastronomy, popular traditions, and the rediscovery of the historic sites of this Abruzzese town.
Caramanico Terme can be reached by car from the A25 motorway (Torre de' Passeri or Alanno-Scafa exit), then by following the signs for the Maiella. The nearest train station is Scafa, which is connected by local bus lines.
The event takes place in the evening, with a welcome point and ticket sales in Piazza Marconi. Participation in the tastings is via the purchase of tickets or booklets at the welcome point.
