About Grape Festival

Every September, the village of Città Sant'Angelo in the province of Pescara hosts the Grape Festival, one of the most beloved harvest celebrations in Abruzzo. The historic center comes alive with a parade of allegorical floats created by local districts, tastings of Montepulciano and Trebbiano wines in historic courtyards, and the authentic flavors of rustic cuisine. It is a day of tradition, folklore, and conviviality winding through the town's medieval alleys.

The Grape Festival of Città Sant'Angelo

The Grape Festival is the event that marks the end of summer every September in Città Sant'Angelo, an elegant hillside village in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo. Created to celebrate the grape harvest and the region's winemaking heritage, the festival transforms the historic center into a journey of flavors, colors, and traditions, attracting thousands of visitors from across the region each year.

Allegorical floats, the heart of the festival

The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats built by the town's districts and neighborhoods: thematic floats decorated with grape clusters, vines, and ironic scenery that animate the city streets for over three hours, from the old town along Corso Vittorio Emanuele. At the end, the public is invited to vote for the most significant float in a lighthearted competition that involves generations of locals and preserves the authentic spirit of the popular festival.

Wine, courtyards, and rustic cuisine

Running alongside the parade is Cantine e Cortili (Cellars and Courtyards), an event that opens the courtyards of the village's historic palaces to local wineries. In the alleys, visitors can taste the signature wines of Abruzzo, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano, paired with traditional rustic dishes: pallotte cace e ova (cheese and egg balls), arrosticini, timballo, and desserts prepared with grape must. The streets are filled with street food stands and local products, while live music and street performers accompany the day's festivities.

Tradition meets vintage cars

The Grape Festival takes place in conjunction with the Fiat 500 and vintage car rally organized at the Marina by the Club500 Angel Abruzzo, adding a vintage touch to the day. The event has its roots in the ancient patronal feasts of Saint Michael the Archangel and today represents one of the most iconic food, wine, and folklore events in the Abruzzo calendar.

A village to discover

Recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Città Sant'Angelo welcomes visitors with its medieval historic center, churches, noble palaces, and panoramic views of the Adriatic coast and the Gran Sasso mountain range. The Grape Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover the village at its most vibrant, amidst the scents of autumn and Abruzzese hospitality.

Grape Festival — edition 2026

The day includes the parade of allegorical floats, the Cantine e Cortili event featuring local wine tastings in historic courtyards, traditional rustic dishes, and the Fiat 500 and vintage car rally at the Marina.
