The harvest celebration in the historic center of Città Sant'Angelo
The Grape Festival is the event that marks the end of summer every September in Città Sant'Angelo, an elegant hillside village in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo. Created to celebrate the grape harvest and the region's winemaking heritage, the festival transforms the historic center into a journey of flavors, colors, and traditions, attracting thousands of visitors from across the region each year.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats built by the town's districts and neighborhoods: thematic floats decorated with grape clusters, vines, and ironic scenery that animate the city streets for over three hours, from the old town along Corso Vittorio Emanuele. At the end, the public is invited to vote for the most significant float in a lighthearted competition that involves generations of locals and preserves the authentic spirit of the popular festival.
Running alongside the parade is Cantine e Cortili (Cellars and Courtyards), an event that opens the courtyards of the village's historic palaces to local wineries. In the alleys, visitors can taste the signature wines of Abruzzo, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano, paired with traditional rustic dishes: pallotte cace e ova (cheese and egg balls), arrosticini, timballo, and desserts prepared with grape must. The streets are filled with street food stands and local products, while live music and street performers accompany the day's festivities.
The Grape Festival takes place in conjunction with the Fiat 500 and vintage car rally organized at the Marina by the Club500 Angel Abruzzo, adding a vintage touch to the day. The event has its roots in the ancient patronal feasts of Saint Michael the Archangel and today represents one of the most iconic food, wine, and folklore events in the Abruzzo calendar.
Recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Città Sant'Angelo welcomes visitors with its medieval historic center, churches, noble palaces, and panoramic views of the Adriatic coast and the Gran Sasso mountain range. The Grape Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover the village at its most vibrant, amidst the scents of autumn and Abruzzese hospitality.
The 2026 edition of the Grape Festival will be held on Sunday, September 20 in the historic center of Città Sant'Angelo, marking the final event of the local summer. The festival's classics are confirmed: the parade of allegorical floats created by the districts along the village streets, the food and wine event Cantine e Cortili with tastings of Montepulciano and Trebbiano in historic courtyards, stands featuring typical Abruzzese products, and live music. At the Marina, the Club500 Angel Abruzzo will organize the traditional Fiat 500 and vintage car rally.
Città Sant'Angelo is located in the province of Pescara. By car: take the A14 motorway exit Città Sant'Angelo-Pescara Nord, then follow signs for the historic center. By train: arrive at Pescara Centrale station, then take a local bus to the town.
The festival takes place on a Sunday in September in the historic center, with the float parade in the afternoon and the Cantine e Cortili event starting in the late afternoon.
Access to the event is free; wine tastings and food products are available for purchase at individual stands and courtyards.
