The national wine event at the Cittadella del Vino in Mezzocorona
Every last weekend of May, the Cittadella del Vino di Mezzacorona, in the municipality of Mezzocorona in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), participates in Cantine Aperte, the national event promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino that opens the doors of Italian wineries to enthusiasts and curious visitors every year. In the heart of the Piana Rotaliana, the home of Teroldego, the event transforms the winery into a place to be experienced with all the senses, amidst vineyards, aging cellars, and guided tastings.
The Cittadella del Vino was established in the late nineties through the redevelopment of a former industrial area in the Piana Rotaliana. Designed by architect Alberto Cecchetto, it is a work of contemporary architecture that engages with the landscape: its striking wave-shaped roof mimics the rolling hills of the pergola-trained Trentino vineyards, creating the sensation that the vineyard is physically entering the winery. It is also home to the Rotari Winery, dedicated to Trentodoc, the classic mountain method sparkling wine of Trentino.
During Cantine Aperte, the public can take part in guided tours that trace the journey of a bottle of Trentodoc, from the harvest to the secondary fermentation, ending in the evocative Sala del Re, where the tasting concludes. Visitors can also enjoy views over the estate's vineyards and the Piana Rotaliana, descend into the barrel cellar, and sample the winery's labels.
Mezzacorona was among the first to champion Teroldego Rotaliano, the iconic grape variety of the area, and a pioneer of wine tourism in Trentino. Participating in Cantine Aperte in Mezzocorona means getting closer to one of the most distinctive denominations of Trentino-Alto Adige, set within a unique architectural and landscape context. The event, which reached its thirty-fourth national edition in 2026, remains one of the most anticipated dates in the Italian wine spring.
The 2026 edition of Cantine Aperte, the thirty-fourth national edition, saw the Cittadella del Vino di Mezzacorona in Mezzocorona offer the experience "DOC & DOP.
