On June 21st, the day of the Fête de la Musique—a celebration that fills the squares of Italy and Europe with music every year—the Municipality of Villarbasse presents Cantare Amantis Est, a choral concert that highlights the tradition of ensemble singing. The event takes place in the setting of Palazzo D'Angennes, also known as Palazzo Conte Schiari, one of the most fascinating noble residences in the area.

A historic residence as a stage

Palazzo D'Angennes traces its origins back to the 16th century, when it was a fortified residence of the Bonino family. It later passed to the Counts Rolando and, following the 1709 marriage between Angela Rolando and the French nobleman Pietro D'Angennes, became the D'Angennes country estate until the second half of the 19th century, when it was purchased by Count Giovanni Battista Schiari. Its garden houses monumental trees, including a plane tree, a cedar, a horse chestnut, and a towering sequoia, while a characteristic covered passage crosses Via Combabona, connecting the garden to the stables. Hosting a choral concert in this location means uniting architectural heritage and musical heritage into a single experience.

The meaning of a title

The Latin expression Cantare amantis est—"to sing is for those who love"—dates back to Saint Augustine and has always been a motto dear to the choral world. In Villarbasse, it becomes the guiding theme of an evening that focuses on the voice, shared repertoire, and participation: choral music as a language capable of uniting generations and transforming a historic courtyard into a space of collective emotion.
