The tradition of hand-stretched fried pizza in the village of Canneto Sabino
The Canneto Sabino Fried Pizza Festival is one of the most cherished gastronomic events of the summer in Sabina. It takes place in Canneto Sabino, a small and picturesque village that is a hamlet of the Municipality of Fara in Sabina, in the heart of the Rieti province, in Lazio. For three evenings, the village square transforms into a great meeting point where the community and visitors gather around a simple, humble dish that has become a symbol of local identity.
The Canneto fried pizza is no ordinary pizza. The dough is strictly hand-stretched and cooked in olive oil, following a process passed down from family to family. For the locals, the name "Cannetana" is synonymous with absolute quality and respect for tradition: ancient grain flours are used, giving the product a lightness and digestibility of times past. It is precisely this artisanal care that distinguishes the festival and attracts numerous visitors from neighboring towns and Rome every year.
The menu at the food stands satisfies all tastes, from savory to sweet:
The kitchen stand opens every evening at 7:30 PM, with the Pro Canneto team busy at the pans and stoves to serve the first of the three evenings.
Every evening, dinner in the square is accompanied by live music, with concerts enlivening the village starting at 9:30 PM. The program alternates between tributes to great Italian and international music, captivating performances, and the unmissable dance evening with the orchestra, in a festive atmosphere that engages families, young people, and enthusiasts of all ages.
Attending the festival is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Sabina region, a land of ancient olive groves and one of the most prized extra virgin olive oils in Italy. It is no coincidence that olive oil is the star of the Canneto fried pizza. Strolling through the village alleys and lingering in Piazza Luigi Pacieri, visitors rediscover the slow, hospitable rhythm of the inland Lazio towns.
The 24th edition of the Canneto Sabino Fried Pizza Festival offers three evenings of taste and music in Piazza Luigi Pacieri. Every evening, the food stand opens at 7:30 PM with Canneto fried pizza in savory and sweet versions, while concerts start at 9:30 PM. Free entry.
Opening of food stands at 7:30 PM with the first frying of the festival. From 9:30 PM, concert by "SARA il Sogno Mediterraneo" with the "Dimmi Chi Ami Tour", a captivating show full of rhythm, melody, and energy.
