Christmas markets, traditions, and the Polentata with Santa Claus in the Sabina village
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
With the arrival of December, the municipality of Fara in Sabina, located in the province of Rieti and overlooking the rolling hills of the Lazio Sabina region, puts on its festive attire. The streets of the ancient village and its various hamlets light up, and throughout the month, there is a constant flow of Christmas markets, family-friendly activities, concerts, and gastronomic events. It is not just a single event, but a widespread program that involves the historic center, the hamlet of Prime Case, and the town of Passo Corese.
The most anticipated event is the Polentata with Santa Claus, held in Prime Case and organized by the Pro Loco of Fara in Sabina with the support of the 500 Club Italia (Rieti branch). The square transforms into a small Christmas village: Santa Claus arrives in vintage Fiat 500s, a marching band provides the soundtrack for the day, and the traditional polenta with spare ribs and sausage is served, accompanied by roasted chestnuts and mulled wine. For the little ones, there are workshops, Christmas carols, fire shows, and the chance to hand-deliver their letters to Santa.
The heart of the festivities lies in the craft stalls and food stands that bring the town's streets to life. On the occasion of the Immaculate Conception, the Via XXIV Maggio merchants' association in Passo Corese sets up its own market with children's entertainment, mascots, local products, and the opportunity to take a photo with Santa Claus.
Christmas in Fara in Sabina is also an opportunity to discover the village's heritage: throughout the month, guided tours of the Civic Archaeological Museum of the Sabina Tiberina are organized, alongside family-oriented workshops and events dedicated to the nativity scene, which tell the story and identity of this corner of Lazio. Performances by the Folk Città di Cures group and the zampognari (bagpipers) complete the atmosphere, blending the charm of the festive lights with that of Sabina's folk traditions. Strolling through the medieval alleys of Fara in Sabina, decorated for the holidays with the scent of chestnuts and mulled wine in the air, is an authentic way to experience Christmas away from the crowds of the big cities.
As every year, with the arrival of December, the village of Fara in Sabina (province of Rieti, Lazio) prepares to celebrate the Christmas holidays with markets, festive lights, and events for all ages. The detailed calendar for the 2026 edition will be published by the Pro Loco of Fara in Sabina and the Municipality in the weeks leading up to the festivities.
