In the heart of Sabina, nestled among the ancient olive groves of the Rieti province, the town of Fara in Sabina celebrates the festive season every December with a series of widespread events that bring the medieval village and its surrounding hamlets to life. The Christmas Markets serve as the common thread for a calendar that weaves together craftsmanship, food and wine, music, and popular traditions in one of the most charming locations in Lazio.
The program takes place across several locations within the municipality. In Passo Corese, along Via XXIV Maggio, the local merchants' association organizes a market featuring artisan stalls, food stands, children's entertainment, mascots, and a decorated area for photos with Santa Claus, while shops remain open with special offers. In the hamlet of Prime Case, the traditional Polentata with Santa Claus takes center stage, featuring the arrival of Santa accompanied by the vintage cars of the 500 Club Italia of Rieti.
Gastronomy is a highlight: polenta with pork ribs and sausage, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine warm up the winter days, accompanied by performances from the local marching band, the Folk Cittร di Cures group, and bagpipers who bring the ancient Christmas sounds of Sabina back to life.
The Civic Archaeological Museum of Sabina Tiberina, housed in Palazzo Brancaleoni in Piazza del Duomo, offers guided tours and educational workshops for both adults and children, such as "Christmas at the Museum" featuring the lighting of the Christmas decorations. The historic village and local churches also host nativity scenes and concerts, such as "The Nativity of Francis" in the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Corese Terra.
Promoted by the Municipality of Fara in Sabina together with the Pro Loco, local associations, and regional stakeholders, the Fara Christmas is above all a community celebration, inviting residents and visitors to rediscover one of the most fascinating villages in Lazio during the most magical time of the year.
The 2026 edition of the Christmas Markets in Fara in Sabina is expected to take place in December, as per tradition. The Christmas calendar is set to involve the historic village and the hamlets of Passo Corese, Prime Case, and Corese Terra, featuring artisan stalls, food and wine specialties, music, and family events. Official dates and the full program will be published by the Municipality of Fara in Sabina and the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the holidays.
Fara in Sabina is located in the province of Rieti, in the Lazio region. By car, it can be reached via the A1 motorway (Fiano Romano exit) or the Salaria road (SS4). The hamlet of Passo Corese is served by the Fara Sabina-Montelibretti railway station, on the Rome-Orte line.
Events take place in various locations throughout the municipality (historic village, Passo Corese, Prime Case, Corese Terra). Many initiatives are free; some workshops at the Civic Archaeological Museum of Sabina Tiberina require a fee. For information: tel. +39 0765 277321, [email protected].
