A food and wine walking tour through the Biellese hills of physicist Amedeo Avogadro
Camminar Mangiando: Discovering the Lands of Count A. Avogadro is a food, wine, and cultural event held in Quaregna Cerreto, a small town in the Province of Biella, in the heart of Piedmont. The concept is simple and successful: walk along a route through the hamlets and hills of the area, stopping at each stage to enjoy a different course, so that lunch is "built" step by step along the way.
The common thread of the event is the territory's bond with the noble Avogadro family, who held Quaregna and Cerreto as a fiefdom and from whom Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro (Turin, 1776) descendedโthe famous physicist and chemist to whom we owe Avogadro's law and the celebrated number that bears his name. Walking through these hills means traversing the places that gave the comital title to one of the most important figures in Italian science.
The route touches on some of the most evocative places in the town: the villas of Cerreto, with the scenic road of the villas; the park of Villa Rosazza with its centuries-old cedars and eighteenth-century frescoes attributed to Fabrizio Galliari; and the Botta vineyards, from which you can admire Quaregna from above. Along the way, you will also encounter the village of Quaregna and the spaces of the multi-purpose facility, the convivial heart of the day.
The gastronomic experience is marked by the stops: it starts with a breakfast of coffee and croissants, then continues with the distribution of appetizers, the first course, and other traditional Piedmontese dishes, all accompanied by local wines. It is a participatory and convivial formula, designed for families, hikers, and curious visitors who want to get to know the area through its flavors.
The event is the result of the collaboration between four local Pro Loco associations โ AQuaregna, Cerreto Castello, Quaregna, and Valle San Nicolao โ together with the Arcibrovato association and with the patronage of the Municipality of Quaregna Cerreto. A virtuous example of how the small communities of the Biella area know how to network to enhance the landscape, history, and typical products.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the food, wine, and cultural walking tour Camminar Mangiando: Discovering the Lands of Count A. Avogadro returned to Quaregna Cerreto, as part of the rich calendar of weekend events in the Biella area.
As per tradition, the event was organized in collaboration between the four Pro Loco associations of AQuaregna, Cerreto Castello, Quaregna, and Valle San Nicolao and the Arcibrovato association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Quaregna Cerreto. Participants walked the route through the hills and hamlets of the town, with food and wine stops dedicated to traditional Piedmontese dishes, discovering the places linked to the family of the physicist Amedeo Avogadro.
The 2026 edition reprised the proven multi-stage walking formula, with departure from the town center and an itinerary through the hamlets of Quaregna and Cerreto.
The detailed menu and precise times were communicated by the organizing Pro Loco associations closer to the event.
Quaregna Cerreto is located in the Cossatese area, in the province of Biella. By car, it can be reached from the SS142 and the provincial roads connecting Biella and Cossato; the nearest train station is Cossato, on the BiellaโNovara line.
The event is usually held in the spring, on a Sunday in May.
Participation requires registration with the organizing Pro Loco associations; booking in advance is recommended given the multi-stage format with a limited number of spots.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing: the route winds through country roads, vineyards, and hilly paths.
