About Culture Week

Every summer, the village of Cammarata, perched in the Sicani Mountains in the province of Agrigento, transforms into a crossroads of culture for the Culture Week. For about ten days between late July and early August, the historic center hosts theatrical performances, concerts, art exhibitions, book presentations, workshops, tastings, and even stargazing sessions. This widespread, free-admission event weaves together Sicilian roots, mythology, and traditions with an open outlook toward the world and the future of the region.

A week of culture through the alleys of Cammarata

The Cammarata Culture Week is the major summer festival that brings the village of Cammarata to life in the heart of the Sicani Mountains, in the province of Agrigento. Launched in 2021, it has grown with each edition to become a highly anticipated event, not only for locals but for visitors from all over Sicily. For about ten days, between late July and early August, the squares, courtyards, and alleys of the historic center are filled with crowds until late in the evening.

A widespread, multidisciplinary event

The strength of the festival lies in its variety: every day offers multiple events dedicated to art in all its forms. The program typically alternates between:

  • theatrical performances, including itinerant versions through the village streets;
  • concerts and musical interludes;
  • dance shows;
  • painting and photography exhibitions, as well as live painting sessions;
  • meetings with authors and book presentations;
  • workshops for children and adults;
  • tastings of local products;
  • astronomical observations and educational outreach.

Culture as a driver for the region

Promoted by the Municipality of Cammarata, the Culture Week was born from the desire to make the town a place of encounter and opportunity, where local excellence engages with that of Sicily and the world. Each edition revolves around a theme: in 2024, «Woman, Sicily and beyond», dedicated to the feminine and archaic mythology; in 2025, «Mother Earth: Journey to Gaia», focusing on the relationship between humanity, nature, and roots. The festival aims to enhance the village's natural and architectural heritage, transforming culture into a concrete tool for community growth.

The village of Cammarata

Cammarata is one of the most characteristic towns in the Agrigento hinterland, nestled on the slopes of the mountain of the same name and bordering San Giovanni Gemini. Its historic center, made of churches, stairways, and panoramic viewpoints, offers the ideal setting for a widespread event that invites you to rediscover the Sicani Mountains away from the most crowded tourist destinations. All events of the Culture Week are free to attend.

Culture Week — edition 2026

The Municipality of Cammarata has not yet officially announced the 2026 edition of the Culture Week. Based on previous editions, the event is traditionally held between late July and early August in the village's historic center, featuring a widespread program of shows, exhibitions, literary meetings, and free tastings. The final dates and program will be communicated by the organizers on official channels.

The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Cammarata Culture Week have not yet been announced at the time of publication. Following the usual calendar of recent editions, the event is expected to return to the historic center of Cammarata between late July and early August, with the customary multidisciplinary program of theater, music, dance, art exhibitions, book presentations, workshops, and tastings, all with free admission.
