Wine, village charm, and shooting stars in the heart of the Villamagna DOC
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Calici di Stelle is the major summer event of the Wine Tourism Movement, which for over thirty years has celebrated the magical bond between the night sky and a passion for wine across Italy. In Abruzzo, the festival is coordinated by the Abruzzo Wine Tourism Movement in collaboration with the Consortium for the Protection of Abruzzo Wines, with Villamagnaโa small village in the Province of Chietiโserving as one of its most iconic locations.
The heart of the event is Piazza Europa, which transforms into an open-air lounge for the evening. As you stroll through the historic center, producers welcome guests at tasting stations, while the square comes alive with live music, group toasts, and tastings. The region is home to the Villamagna DOC, a designation that protects a red wine of great character, primarily made from Montepulciano grapes: here, visitors can meet the very wineries that uphold this tradition.
The event features wineries from the town and the surrounding area, including names such as Torre Zambra, Cantina Villamagna, Cascina del Colle, Agricosimo, Palazzo Battaglini, Piandimare, and Valle Martello. Each winery offers its own wines for tasting, paired with authentic local street food: a culinary journey that weaves together great Abruzzo reds, rosรฉs, and traditional peasant dishes.
True to the spirit of Calici di Stelle, the evening invites you to look up at the summer sky during the nights of the shooting stars. Tastings, meetings with producers, music, and the conviviality typical of Abruzzo villages create an appointment that blends wine tourism, wine culture, and village life. Admission is free; to taste, you can purchase a kit including a branded wine glass, a neck strap, and tasting tokens.
Situated on the hills overlooking the Foro river valley, just a few kilometers from Chieti and the Trabocchi Coast, Villamagna is a small town with a strong wine-growing vocation. Its independent designation, the Villamagna DOC, makes it a benchmark for wine in Abruzzo. Participating in Calici di Stelle in this village means discovering a territory where viticulture is a collective identity, set against one of the most evocative evenings of the Abruzzo summer.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Calici di Stelle in Villamagna have not yet been officially announced. The national calendar of the Wine Tourism Movement indicates the period between July 24 and August 16, 2026, but the specific date for the Villamagna stop in Piazza Europa and the list of participating wineries will be released by the Abruzzo Wine Tourism Movement in the weeks preceding the event. The evening is expected to follow the usual format: tastings of Villamagna DOC wines, local street food, live music, and summer sky gazing. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
Villamagna can be reached by car from Chieti in about 15 minutes (A14 Pescara-Ovest / Chieti motorway exit). The reference train station is Chieti, which is connected to the village by local bus lines.
Free admission to the event in Piazza Europa and throughout the historic center. For tastings, you can purchase a kit with a wine glass, neck strap, and tasting tokens (approximate price from previous editions: 11-15 euros). Online booking is recommended when available.
It is an outdoor summer evening, so light clothing is recommended. A wide selection of local street food is available on-site. For updated information on dates and wineries, please check the channels of the Abruzzo Wine Tourism Movement.
