Chianti Classico wine under the San Lorenzo stars in the heart of the Sienese Chianti
Calici di Stelle is the food and wine festival that lights up the village of Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena, in the heart of Tuscany, every summer. The event is part of the national Calici di Stelle calendar promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement, which pairs the tasting of great Italian wines with the night of San Lorenzo and the spectacle of the starry mid-August sky.
Castellina in Chianti is one of the historic municipalities in the Chianti Classico area, the iconic wine identified by the famous Gallo Nero (Black Rooster). During the event, the streets and squares of the historic center fill with booths where local winemakers and producers from Castellina offer their labels for tasting. Alongside local wineries, one evening is dedicated to Calici d'Italia, a showcase of wines and products from across the entire peninsula.
The festival's formula combines wine tasting with many other ingredients that bring the village to life until late at night:
The setting is that of an authentic Tuscan village: the walls, the fortress, the alleys, and the famous Via delle Volte make this food and wine stroll an experience that goes beyond the glass. Castellina in Chianti is located along the Via Chiantigiana, a short distance from Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence, making it an ideal stop for those wanting to discover the flavors and landscapes of Chianti Classico. Calici di Stelle is organized by the Municipality of Castellina in Chianti in collaboration with the local Natural Commercial Center and regional associations.
For 2026, the summer calendar of Castellina in Chianti confirms the return of Calici di Stelle in the heart of August. Sunday, August 9th features Calici d'Italia, with tasting booths for wines and products from various Italian regions paired with street food in the squares and streets of the historic center. Monday, August 10th, on the night of San Lorenzo, is the main evening of Calici di Stelle, dedicated to the Chianti Classico wines of Castellina's winemakers, with live music, gastronomy, and shooting star observation along the village walls with amateur astronomers.
The detailed program of times, concerts, and participating wineries will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event. Admission is free, while tastings are paid for on-site with a glass and tickets.
