The festival of the 'strie' blending history, nature, and the feminine spirit in Nogaredo
Calendimaggio is the most iconic cultural event in Nogaredo, a small village in the Vallagarina valley in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Every spring, around the April 30th and May 1st holiday, the ancient village comes alive with exhibitions, performances, tastings, and meetings, all revolving around a central theme: the feminine world and its history.
The festival is rooted in a dark yet fascinating chapter of local history: the 'strie' (witch) trials held in Nogaredo between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, when several local women were accused of witchcraft. From that painful memory, Calendimaggio has built an event that shifts the perspective, restoring dignity and centrality to the female figure and proposing a different theme each year related to women, nature, and folk traditions.
The historic centre of Nogaredo, with its courtyards, vaulted ceilings, and farmstead gardens, becomes a pedestrian-friendly trail. Recurring highlights include:
Many activities are centred around Palazzo Lodron, a historic residence whose garden and stables provide a stunning setting for tastings, shows, and concerts. Calendimaggio is recognised as an Eco-Event Trentino for its commitment to sustainability, using reusable ceramic tableware and glass cups.
Organised by the Pro Loco of Nogaredo de le Strie in collaboration with the Municipality of Nogaredo, the festival has become a staple of the Trentino spring, successfully blending historical memory, culture, gastronomy, and the promotion of the Vallagarina region.
The 27th edition of the Calendimaggio of Nogaredo, the first organised by the new Pro Loco of Nogaredo de le Strie, focused on the theme 'Elementa Donna - The Harmony of Elements', dedicated to the bond between the female figure and the elements of nature. The edition was also presented at the Chamber of Deputies.
The main days were April 30th and May 1st, 2026, featuring an opening panel discussion, a food and wine trail with local and organic products, an artisan market, theatre and musical performances, exhibitions, and activities at Palazzo Lodron.
The musical highlight took place on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at 9:00 PM: a concert by Malika Ayane and her band in the garden of Palazzo Lodron, following her participation in Sanremo with the song 'Animali notturni'.
Nogaredo is located in the Vallagarina valley, just a few kilometres from Rovereto (province of Trento). By car: A22 motorway, exit Rovereto Sud, then SS12 towards Villa Lagarina/Nogaredo. By train: Rovereto station on the Brenner line, then local bus or taxi.
Access to the festival grounds and the market is free; the food and wine trail and some activities (tastings, workshops) require payment. The main concert in the Palazzo Lodron garden is ticketed, and booking is recommended.
