The environmental education day hosted by the CAI Brennero Section in Colle Isarco
The Tree Festival is an initiative that the CAI Brennero Section dedicates every year to the environmental education of young people. The event takes place at the Colle Isarco sports grounds, a village in the Municipality of Brennero (Brenner in German), in the Province of Bolzano and the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region. The day combines the theme of forest care with the discovery of the mountain landscape of the Upper Isarco Valley, a borderland between Italy and Austria.
The heart of the event is the planting of the saplings. Fourth and fifth-grade classes from the primary and secondary schools of Brennero, Colle Isarco, and Vipiteno participate with enthusiasm, planting trees provided by the Vipiteno Forestry Station, which oversees and supports all operations. A concrete gesture that teaches children the value of reforestation and respect for the alpine environment.
The morning is not just about trees. Children have the opportunity to learn about the daily work of mountain-based organizations: the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS), the Alpine Rescue of the Financial Guard (SAGF) of Vipiteno, and representatives of the Carabinieri from the Brennero and Colle Isarco stations. The officers present their vehicles and equipment and share their experiences, introducing the little ones to the themes of mountain safety.
The day ends on a high note: after the activities, the children enjoy a snack and continue with games and songs, in a spirit of sharing that strengthens the bond between schools, associations, and the local area. The Tree Festival thus represents an educational and community moment, capable of passing on to new generations a sense of care for nature and the mountain landscape.
Promoted by the CAI Brennero Section, the event involves schools, law enforcement, and the Forestry Corps every year in a shared environmental awareness project. A now-traditional appointment that testifies to the commitment of the Italian Alpine Club to the protection and knowledge of the mountain environment of South Tyrol.
The 2026 Tree Festival was held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Colle Isarco sports grounds, in the Municipality of Brennero. Fourth and fifth-grade classes from the Vipiteno Comprehensive Institute and the schools of Brennero and Colle Isarco planted approximately 60 saplings, provided and supervised by the Vipiteno Forestry Station.
During the morning, the children learned about the work of the CNSAS, the Vipiteno SAGF, and the Carabinieri from the Brennero and Colle Isarco stations, who presented their vehicles and activities. The day concluded on a cheerful note with games and songs.
The Tree Festival is held at the sports grounds in Colle Isarco, a village in the Municipality of Brennero (Province of Bolzano).
Colle Isarco can be reached via the A22 Brennero motorway (Vipiteno-Val di Vizze exit) and by train via the Vipiteno-Val Giovo station, just a few kilometres away. The event is aimed specifically at local schools.
The event is organized by the CAI Brennero Section, in collaboration with the Vipiteno Forestry Station.
