Puppet theatre to warm up the winter in the Alta Langa
Burattinarte d'Inverno is the winter edition of one of the longest-running Piedmontese festivals dedicated to puppet theatre. Organized by the Associazione Culturale Burattinarte under the artistic direction of Claudio Giri and Consuelo Conterno, the event brings a network of towns in the Langhe and Roero areas—including Alba, Corneliano d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, Piobesi d'Alba, Novello, Guarene, and Murazzano—to life each winter with puppet, marionette, shadow, and storytelling shows that explore this ancient folk art with a contemporary twist.
In Murazzano, a small town in the Alta Langa in the province of Cuneo perched on a scenic ridge between the Belbo and Bormida valleys, the festival finds its home in the Salone Polifunzionale on Piazza Monsignor Dadone, an intimate space that becomes a stage for top-tier Italian companies. Admission is free, a choice that preserves the festival's popular and inclusive spirit, making it the perfect destination for a Sunday afternoon with the family.
Burattinarte d'Inverno is not just for children: the programme alternates between great traditional classics—from Pulcinella to Gioppino, and from guarattelle to traditional booths—and more poetic, experimental original creations capable of moving adult audiences as well. The shows are designed for families and children aged 3 and up, attracting companies from all over Italy and confirming the festival's status as a key reference point for puppet theatre in the Cuneo area.
Attending a Burattinarte d'Inverno show in Murazzano means rediscovering the magic of an art form made of gestures, voices, and hands, in an Alta Langa village celebrated for its Robiola DOP cheese, its medieval tower, and panoramic views stretching from the Langhe to the Maritime Alps. It is the perfect opportunity to combine theatre, tradition, and local exploration, away from screens and immersed in the warmth of an art that continues to speak to all generations.
The 27th edition of Burattinarte d'Inverno enlivened the winter of 2026 with eight afternoon events distributed between Alba and the villages of the Langhe and Roero—Corneliano d'Alba, Piobesi d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, Novello, Guarene, and Murazzano—involving Italian puppet theatre companies. The festival, under the artistic direction of Claudio Giri and Consuelo Conterno, offered an edition with a "feminine perspective," featuring a strong presence of female artists and a programme that blended tradition and modernity. In Murazzano, "Il Cane Infernale," a grotesque and subversive show by the Teatro Medico Ipnotico of Parma, was performed on Sunday, March 22.
The only event in Murazzano: "Il Cane Infernale" by the Teatro Medico Ipnotico of Parma, written, directed, and performed by Patrizio Dall'Argine, on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 4:30 PM at the Salone Polifunzionale in Piazza Monsignor Dadone. A puppet show that blends Emilian tradition, grotesque imagery, and contemporary dramaturgy: a hellish dog terrorizes a city, and two giants of music, Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner, confront each other: it will be Verdi, with intelligence and musical harmony rather than force, who resolves the situation. Recommended for ages 3 and up.
