About Buono e Bio Festival

Two days at the Botanical Garden of Rome dedicated to organic farming, agroecology, and urban food policies. The Slow Food Earth Market and the FederBio Organic Village bring together over forty small-scale producers featuring Slow Food Presidia and Ark of Taste products, while talks, tastings, workshops, and the Baby Bio Park bring the historic Trastevere garden to life. A popular and accessible event that highlights the connection between the city, the countryside, and the inland areas of Lazio and all of Italy.

A food festival in the green heart of Trastevere

Buono e Bio Festival transforms the Botanical Garden of Rome, in the Trastevere district, into a grand square for good, clean, and fair food for an entire weekend. The event is promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle of Rome Capital together with Slow Food Italy and FederBio, in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome and the FAO Mountain Partnership. The result is a national event that combines the convivial atmosphere of a local festival with serious discussion on food policies.

The setting is no coincidence: the four thousand square meters of historic garden overlooking the Janiculum Hill, with their botanical collections, offer a backdrop that makes the initiative's message immediate: the deep bond between plant biodiversity, agriculture, and the quality of what ends up on our plates.

The Earth Market and the Organic Village

The heart of the festival is the large open-air market. The Slow Food Lazio Earth Market and the FederBio Organic Village welcome over forty small-scale producers from all over Italy: organic and biodynamic farms, artisanal businesses, national organic supply chain organizations, and numerous Slow Food Presidia with products registered in the Ark of Taste.

  • Direct sales from producers, with no intermediaries
  • Guided tastings of cheeses, cured meats, breads, preserves, oils, and wines
  • Organic food areas open from 12:00 to 19:00
  • Meetings with farmers, beekeepers, bakers, and chefs
  • Stamp collection along the market route with final prizes

Talks, debates, and food policies

Alongside the market, a dense program of meetings addresses the most current issues in the food system: the new alliance between cities and inland areas, the relationship between food, health, and the Mediterranean diet, the future of school and collective catering, justice in the agri-food supply chain, and the role of women in the agroecological transition. Data provided by the organizers paints a clear picture: only about a quarter of the food consumed in Rome comes from the Roman countryside and Lazio, while the metropolitan area has lost tens of thousands of hectares of agricultural and natural land over the last sixty years.

The establishment of the Food Council of Rome Capital is one of the pillars of the discussion: the festival thus becomes a public opportunity to debate how an administration can foster short supply chains, quality canteens, and more equitable access to healthy, organic products.

Children and families: the Baby Bio Park

Throughout the event, the Baby Bio Park offers activities dedicated to children and families: "hands-on" workshops, interactive games, sensory paths, an organic treasure hunt, and meetings with producers designed to help little ones discover seasonality, agricultural work, and the origin of food. It is one of the most popular sections, as it turns play into a shared learning opportunity for adults and children alike.

Why it's worth visiting

Buono e Bio Festival is now one of the most recognizable appointments in the food, wine, and environmental calendar of the Lazio Region and the Municipality of Rome. Those arriving to shop will find a high-quality market with products hard to find elsewhere; those seeking content will find a national-level program of talks; those coming as a family will find shade, lawns, workshops, and a historic garden to explore. The symbolic entrance fee, donated to a FAO international program, completes the meaning of the initiative: eating well is also a choice that concerns others and the planet.

Buono e Bio Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Buono e Bio Festival took place on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, at the Botanical Garden of Rome, from 10:00 to 19:00. Buono e Bio Festival 2026

Two days at the Botanical Garden of Rome dedicated to organic farming, agroecology, and urban food policies. Continuing from the previous year's Bio Festival and MontagnaMadre, the 2026 edition broadened its focus to the relationship between the city and inland areas, under the patronage of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle of Rome Capital.

The Slow Food Lazio Earth Market and the FederBio Organic Village hosted over forty small-scale producers, featuring Slow Food Presidia and Ark of Taste products, tastings, and organic food areas. Alongside the market, a program of meetings with experts, administrators, farmers, and researchers addressed food security, the Mediterranean diet, school canteens, fair prices for farmers, and urban food policies. The Baby Bio Park accompanied children and families throughout the event.
