A grape harvest festival in the heart of Rome

The Vendemmiata Romana is the only grape harvest festival held in Rome's historic center, within the stunning Botanical Garden in the Trastevere district, Rome, Lazio. Every September, the Trastevere garden of the Sapienza University of Rome transforms into a grand open-air stage dedicated to rural culture, Italian wine, and the tradition of the harvest, experienced as a collective celebration and a meeting point for generations.

Vigneto Italia, the star of the event

The beating heart of the festival is Vigneto Italia, a one-of-a-kind vineyard that gathers over 150 native grape varieties from all regions of Italy: a true living map of the national viticultural heritage, from the Aosta Valley to Sicily. Throughout the day, visitors participate in the collective harvest, picking grapes together among the rows and rediscovering the ancient gestures of Italian agricultural tradition.

Tastings, culture, and street food

The program features wine tastings led by Luca Maroni, author of the renowned guide "I Migliori Vini Italiani," who guides the public in discovering wines produced directly from the grapes of Vigneto Italia. Numerous activities revolve around the tastings:

• Folk dancing and live music along the garden paths;
• Workshops and seminars dedicated to wine, grapes, and oenological culture;
• Special guided tours to discover the botanical collections;
• Meetings with artisans and producers from the wine world;
• Street food areas with gastronomic offerings for every taste.

An event for the whole family

Vendemmiata Romana is designed as a day to be enjoyed outdoors with the whole family: children can participate in dedicated workshops, explore the garden, and learn about the world of grapes and the harvest in a playful way. The setting of the Botanical Garden, one of the most fascinating green lungs of Rome, makes the experience as recreational as it is cultural.

Organization and context

The event is organized by Sens Eventi together with I Migliori Vini Italiani by Luca Maroni, in collaboration with the Botanical Garden Museum of the Sapienza University of Rome. The festival is part of the rich calendar of food, wine, and cultural events that enliven the Capital of Lazio, offering Romans and visitors a unique opportunity to experience the harvest without leaving the city center.
