The historic kilns of Impruneta open their doors to art and terracotta
Buongiorno Ceramica – Kilns in Festival is the Impruneta stop of the major national event Buongiorno Ceramica, promoted by the Italian Association of Ceramics Cities in collaboration with the Municipality of Impruneta and local cultural organizations. For an entire weekend, the town's historic kilns, united under the C.A.T. (Artistic and Traditional Ceramics) brand, open their doors to the public and transform into lively hubs of creativity, where the ancient knowledge of terracotta meets contemporary arts.
Located on the hills just a few kilometers from Florence, in the heart of the Florentine Chianti in Tuscany, Impruneta has been the capital of terracotta for centuries: the local clay, rich in galestro, has made Impruneta vases, jars, and roof tiles famous around the world. The event was created precisely to showcase this heritage from within, fostering a dialogue between master kiln-makers and artists, musicians, photographers, and performers.
The historic kilns belonging to the C.A.T. brand open to the public:
The program offers about a dozen events spread across the area: live sculpture, painting, photography, contemporary art installations, folk music, dance, theater, poetry readings, workshops for children, and tastings of local products. The activities are curated by local artistic associations and involve citizens, families, enthusiasts, and visitors.
All events are free of charge: some workshops and evening shows (particularly at Fornace Agresti) require booking due to limited seating. The event is designed as a widespread town festival, capable of combining the promotion of artisan heritage with a rich cultural calendar accessible to everyone.
The 2026 edition opened on Friday, May 22 at Terrecotte Pesci Giorgio & Figli (15:30-17:30) with the inauguration of the event curated by the Art-Art Association. Saturday, May 23, at Terrecotte Ricceri Sergio (10:00-12:00), featured live sculpture, painting, and photography; the highlight was the presentation in Piazza Buondelmonti of the contemporary installation FOUR ELEMENTS – 7x7 by artist Patrizio Travagli, created with local artifacts. Sunday, May 24, at Poggi Ugo Terrecotte (10:30-12:30), featured sculpture, painting, photography, and music.
The kilns remained open from 10:00-12:00 and 15:00-18:00 with free admission. Among the widespread activities: folk music, aerial dance, theater, poetry, embroidery, floral design, and exhibitions, with tastings of local products. The Municipality of Impruneta called the edition a record success.
Impruneta is located about 15 km south of Florence. By car, it can be reached from the Impruneta exit of the A1 motorway or via the Strada Chiantigiana. Buses to Impruneta are available from the Florence Santa Maria Novella station.
The kilns can be visited from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00 during the event days.
Free admission to all events. Some workshops and shows (Fornace Agresti) require booking: [email protected].
