The great celebration of children's literature at the Movicentro in Bra
The Children's Book Fair is one of the most beloved cultural events in the town of Bra, situated in the Langhe-Roero area of the Cuneo province, Piedmont. Promoted by the Municipal Department of Culture, the event brings thousands of children, teenagers, teachers, and families to the Movicentro in Bra every spring, turning the venue in Piazza Caduti di Nassiriya into a capital of children's literature and publishing for a few days.
The Bra fair is considered unique in the region because it is built entirely around the young reader. The heart of the event is the large book exhibition and market, created in collaboration with local bookstores, offering over 15,000 titles selected for various age groups, from toddlers to secondary school students. Alongside the bookshelves, visitors can enjoy educational and creative workshops, animated readings, meetings with authors and illustrators, theatrical performances, treasure hunts, and games.
The structure of the Fair combines two distinct focuses. On weekdays, the Movicentro welcomes hundreds of students from preschools, primary schools, and middle schools from across the province of Cuneo for full-day educational workshops. The weekend is dedicated to families, featuring readings, games, and activities designed for children and adults to experience together.
One of the most heartfelt moments is the presentation of the Beppe Manassero Award, a recognition tied to the values of culture, civic engagement, and the promotion of reading, named in memory of a figure dear to the city of Bra. Over the years, the award has honored prominent personalities from the worlds of culture and solidarity.
Now in its more mature editions, the Fair has become a consolidated spring tradition in Bra, enriched each year by a thematic program that blends literary classics with contemporary works. For those visiting the Langhe and Roero, it is also a perfect opportunity to discover Bra, a city recognized for its cultural and gastronomic vocation and the birthplace of the Slow Food movement.
