The premier showcase of South Tyrolean wines at Castel Mareccio
The Bozner Weinkost — known in Italian as the Mostra dei Vini di Bolzano — is one of South Tyrol's most enduring and celebrated wine events. Organized by the Bolzano Tourist Board in collaboration with the Italian Academy of Cuisine, it takes place every spring in the city of Bolzano, the capital of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Its history dates back to the late 19th century, making it a true local tradition that marks the start of the South Tyrolean wine season.
The exhibition is held at Castel Mareccio (Schloss Maretsch), a medieval manor nestled in a vineyard just a short walk from Piazza Walther and Bolzano's historic center. The castle's courtyard, historic halls, and tavern host the winery stands, creating a refined atmosphere where the viticultural landscape literally enters the city. It is one of the most evocative venues that South Tyrolean oenology has to offer.
The Weinkost features nearly forty of the province's most renowned wineries, alongside small traditional producers. There are over one hundred and sixty labels on offer from Bolzano, Oltradige, Bassa Atesina, the Isarco Valley, the Adige Valley, Merano, and the Burgraviato area. A significant focus is placed on indigenous grape varieties, starting with Schiava (Vernatsch), the historic local red, as well as Lagrein, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, and South Tyrolean sparkling wines.
Tastings are conducted comfortably at tables, with sommeliers on hand to guide guests through the various labels. The program includes masterclasses, seminars, and taste workshops dedicated to food pairings and tasting techniques, as well as the highly anticipated «L'Oste nel Castello» gourmet dinners, prepared by local chefs in the castle's Sala Thun.
The Wine Exhibition is much more than just a fair: it is a moment of identity for Bolzano and all of South Tyrol, where winemaking tradition meets the region's culinary culture. Visitors to the city in spring will find the Weinkost the perfect opportunity to discover South Tyrolean wines directly from the hands of those who produce them.
The 99th Bolzano Wine Exhibition was held from March 26 to 29, 2026, in the setting of Castel Mareccio. Nearly 39 of the province's most renowned wineries participated, alongside small traditional producers, with over 160 labels available for tasting.
The public enjoyed table-service tastings with the assistance of sommeliers and participated in masterclasses and seminars, including deep dives into wine and vegetable pairings and local smoked products, as well as a workshop dedicated to sparkling wines and the new generation of Schiava (Vernatsch) wines. The evenings featured «L'Oste nel Castello» gourmet dinners in the Sala Thun, with local chefs such as Günther Lobiser, Anton Dalvai, and Luis Agostini.
Castel Mareccio is located on Via Claudia de' Medici, just a few minutes' walk from Piazza Walther and the Bolzano train station, which is well-connected by Brenner line trains. By car, Bolzano can be reached via the A22 motorway (Bolzano Sud or Nord exit); using city center parking garages is recommended.
The entrance ticket (approx. 25 euros) includes tasting vouchers and table reservation. Seminars, workshops, and the «L'Oste nel Castello» gourmet dinners require advance booking. For info and reservations: Bolzano Tourist Board, tel. +39 347 3976957, e-mail [email protected].
Combine your visit with a stroll through Bolzano's historic center and its markets; many local hotels offer packages that include admission to the exhibition.
