The hill climb that takes cyclists from the valley floor to the summit of Monte Tovo
The Borgosesia-Monte Tovo Hill Climb is an uphill cycling race held in Borgosesia, in the province of Vercelli (Piedmont), set against the stunning backdrop of the Valsesia valley. It is one of the most anticipated events of the StarsCup circuit, a calendar of hill climbs and time trials that energize the Valsesia and Biella territories at the foot of Monte Rosa every year.
The principle is as simple as it is ruthless: start from the valley floor and climb without respite to the top. The course measures exactly ten kilometers and is entirely paved, running from the junction of the Provincial Road 299 towards Foresto up to the summit of Monte Tovo, at an altitude of 1,190 meters. The total elevation gain is nearly 1,200 meters, and the average gradient puts legs and lungs to the test, with steep sections that exceed 20% in some places.
The race is part of the StarsCup circuit, created through the collaboration between the Pedale Cossatese and Team Valli del Rosa clubs, with the patronage of the Piedmont Region and the Union of Valsesia Municipalities. The circuit brings together several iconic climbs in the area—Oropa-Galleria Rosazza, Quarona-Monte Tovo, Cossato-Banchette, Piode-Alpe Meggiana, Campiglia-Bielmonte—rewarding the best riders through stage rankings, team standings, and a final general classification.
The Borgosesia-Monte Tovo Hill Climb is one of the highlights of the season and a fixed appointment for amateur cyclists in northern Piedmont who love to test themselves against the great climbs.
Borgosesia is the main hub of the lower Valsesia, a gateway to one of the most fascinating alpine valleys in Piedmont. The hill climb enhances this territory by making the mountain not just a backdrop, but the true protagonist of the competition: the riders' effort is measured meter by meter against the slope, while the landscape progressively opens up to the peaks surrounding the valley. An event that combines sport, a passion for cycling, and the promotion of the Vercelli mountain region.
