The parade of allegorical floats in the Madonie village
The Bompietro Carnival is one of the most beloved carnival celebrations in the heart of the Madonie, located in the small town of Bompietro, in the Province of Palermo (Sicily). Every year, the festival brings thousands of people to the village, all drawn by the grand parade of allegorical floats and the atmosphere of color, music, and joy that fills the streets.
The heart of the event lies in the eight allegorical floats, true works of creativity and beauty built in the weeks leading up to the event by local groups. As the organizers emphasize, the Carnival is an important moment of community gathering that takes shape weeks in advance with the patient construction of the floats. The parade starts at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in the hamlet of Locati, winds through the village streets, and reaches Piazza delle Rimembranze, accompanied by masked groups and an explosion of music and joy.
After the afternoon parade, the festivities continue in the evening at the Municipal Auditorium, where a dance party with music and dancing takes place. It is the convivial moment that closes the day of celebration, bringing together young and old in an atmosphere of fun and folklore.
Now a well-established event, the festival is organized by the Municipality of Bompietro together with the Asd Vis Bompietro, with the collaboration of the Youth Council. The Carnival represents one of the most significant expressions of identity for the community of this Madonie village, capable of mobilizing the entire town and attracting visitors from neighboring areas of inland Sicily.
The 45th edition of the Bompietro Carnival was held on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The parade started at 2:30 PM from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, in the hamlet of Locati, with eight allegorical floats and numerous masked groups, winding through the village streets to Piazza delle Rimembranze.
