A scenic walk through the vineyards, historic villages, and landscapes of the Casale Monferrato area
The Black Truffle Trek is one of the most evocative events animating the National Black Truffle Fair 'Trifola nOiR' in Murisengo Monferrato, a small town in the Province of Alessandria nestled in the heart of the Casale Monferrato area, in Piedmont. This guided excursion is designed for those who want to discover the black truffle territory not just at the dinner table, but at a leisurely pace, immersed in the landscape of hills, vineyards, and woods that protect it.
The route is an 8.5-kilometer loop with an elevation gain of approximately 250 meters and a low difficulty level, making it suitable for a wide audience. The estimated duration is three to three and a half hours. After departing from Piazza Lavazza, the walk crosses the village of Murisengo before descending toward the valley floor along grassy paths, crossing the Valcerrina provincial road, and gently climbing through meadows and vine rows to the ancient hamlet of Corteranzo.
The trek is not an isolated event: it is part of the rich calendar of 'Trifola nOiR', the fair dedicated to the black truffle of Monferrato, which takes place during the first two weekends of June between the old village and the park of the Murisengo Castle. At the end of the walk, participants can stop for street food featuring traditional Monferrato dishes, often accompanied by live jazz music. The initiative is organized by the Cammini DiVini and Nordic Walking Valcerrina associations, led by hiking guide Augusto Cavallo.
For those visiting the fair, the Black Truffle Trek is the perfect opportunity to combine the gastronomic discovery of the black truffle with the landscape that produces it. It is an experience that tells the story of the identity of the Casale Monferrato area, a land of vineyards, historic villages, and rustic cuisine, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On Saturday, June 13, 2026, with a meeting at 4:00 PM and departure at 4:30 PM from Piazza Lavazza, the second edition of the Black Truffle Trek took place. A large group of walkers tackled the approximately 8.5-kilometer loop, crossing the village of Murisengo, descending toward the valley floor, and climbing back up through meadows and vineyards to the hamlet of Corteranzo. Along the way, participants were able to admire the pagoda-shaped church of San Luigi Gonzaga, the panoramic viewpoints over the Alps, and the 18th-century cellars of the La Canonica relais. Upon returning, scheduled around 7:45 PM, the exceptionally opened castle park welcomed hikers with food and wine stands, street food, local products, and live jazz music.
Murisengo Monferrato can be reached by car via the SP 590 road of Valcerrina; the meeting point is in Piazza Lavazza, in the town center. The nearest train stations are Casale Monferrato and Asti, from which you can continue by car.
The participation fee is 10 euros. Booking is mandatory. For information and registration, call +39 339 4188277 or email [email protected].
Sports or hiking shoes, comfortable clothing, a hat, and a supply of water are recommended. The street food at the end of the excursion is optional.
