Biroc' Race – Vigo Rendena Grand Prix

A wacky race blending creativity and tradition

In just a few years, the Biroc' Race has become one of the most anticipated summer events in Val Rendena. It takes place in Vigo Rendena, a village within the municipality of Porte di Rendena in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), turning the entire town into an open-air circuit for a day. The stars of the show are the biròcc: handmade, engine-free carts built by crews using recycled materials, wooden or rubber wheels, and boundless imagination. They race down a 600-meter course through the town center, finishing at the Sarca park.

Creativity counts more than speed

The event's unique charm lies in its playful and folkloric spirit: the winner isn't necessarily the fastest, but the one with the most original, well-crafted, and entertaining vehicle. A jury evaluates the teams based on construction, detail, and ingenuity, while audience feedback helps determine the final rankings. Alongside prizes for the best times, special awards are given for charm, originality, and the overall aesthetic of the biròcc.

Categories and track

The race is traditionally divided into several categories, which in past editions have included two-seater and single-seater biròcc, with either wooden or rubber wheels. The course, a gentle slope winding through the village houses, tests the courage and skill of the pilots, who navigate curves and straights without an engine, powered solely by gravity.

Beyond the competition, the Biroc' Race is, above all, a grand community festival brought to life by the volunteers of Pro Loco Vigo Rendena. With laughter, music, and a festive atmosphere, the event draws thousands of residents and tourists to Val Rendena, serving as a moment of connection and local pride. Over the years, there has been no shortage of surprises and special guests, all ready to provide the audience with a spectacular and emotional experience.

Location

Vigo Rendena is one of the villages of Porte di Rendena, a municipality formed by the merger of towns in the lower Val Rendena. It sits at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites in the heart of one of Trentino's most beautiful regions, nestled between the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park and the renowned tourist destinations of Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio.
