The cheese and autumn flavors festival of Alta Ossola
BiancoLatte - The Gold of Alta Ossola is the autumn festival that brings the municipality of Crodo to life every October. Located in Valle Antigorio, in the heart of Alta Ossola in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont), the event was established in 2014. Organized by the Municipality of Crodo in collaboration with Pro Loco 2.0, it is widely considered one of the most beloved events in the Ossola festival calendar, being the only one entirely dedicated to the cheeses and dairy products of the high valleys.
The true king of the festival is Bettelmatt, a rare high-mountain pasture cheese produced in only a few alpine meadows in the Ossola region and considered one of the finest in Italy. Alongside it, you will find Ossolano DOP, aged tome, fresh cheeses, and a wide variety of mountain dairy products. One of the most anticipated moments is the traditional Bettelmatt branding, a ritual that certifies and celebrates the region's dairy excellence.
The heart of the event is the large farmers' market set up at the Foro Boario, where breeders, cheesemakers, farmers, and artisans offer fresh and aged cheeses, prized tome, medicinal herbs, garden produce, forest fruits, and mountain honey. It is a slow journey through the flavors and scents of the Ossola valleys, celebrating short supply chains and rural traditions.
In addition to the market, BiancoLatte offers the famous raclette, guided tastings, traditional afternoon snacks (merende sinoire) with local cured meats and cheeses, chestnut roasts, creative workshops, and activities designed for children. The program also includes nature-themed evenings, exhibitions dedicated to alpine culture (such as the exhibition on Alpe Cravariola), and collaborations with the Ossola Protected Areas Authority, which offers talks on alpine fauna and special guided tours of the territory.
Visiting BiancoLatte means discovering the authentic soul of Alta Ossola: a land of alpine pastures, meadows, and dairy traditions passed down from generation to generation. The autumn setting of Crodo, with its forests turning gold and red, makes the event an unmissable appointment for lovers of good food, mountains, and Piedmontese traditions.
The 2026 edition of BiancoLatte is scheduled in Crodo on October 3 and 4, 2026, as announced by the municipality's official events website. This marks the 13th edition of the event dedicated to the high-altitude cheeses of the Ossola region.
The detailed program will be published in the weeks leading up to the event. As per tradition, the dairy farmers' market at the Foro Boario, the Bettelmatt branding, the raclette, and numerous side activities for families and mountain gastronomy enthusiasts are expected. For updates, please refer to the website crodoeventi.it and the event's Facebook page.
Crodo can be reached by car from the A26 motorway (Gravellona Toce exit), continuing along the SS33 del Sempione road to Domodossola and then towards Valle Antigorio. By train, the reference station is Domodossola, which is connected to major cities; from there, local transport continues to Crodo.
The event takes place mainly at the Foro Boario in Crodo and in the surrounding areas of the village.
Admission to the event is generally free; some tastings and activities may require a fee. For the detailed program and updated times, it is recommended to consult the official website crodoeventi.it or the BiancoLatte - L'Oro d'Alta Ossola Facebook page. Contact: [email protected].
